hot-swapping VGA monitors?

Just got a brand spankin' new laptop which has a VGA port on the back. I was wondering if it'd hurt anything if I 'hot-swapped' the 9---pinned VGA plug--plugging and unplugging it while the computer is on. I've done it once or twice and it hasn't hurt anything (I had the monitor off), but I could see it possible doing something bad.

Nope VGA is basically one way (except for the monitor detection stuff) I swap all the time, doesn't hurt anything.

Could you even do it w/ the monitor on? Or should I be turning it off every time?

Its not going to hurt anything if you plug or unplug a vga monitor while its on or off.
