There are a couple egay dealers who sell generic memory cards for significantly less. You can get them under $20.

You have to be careful with the generic ones. They sometimes come with "memory management software", which doesn't say on the box it's required (but you find out when you open it). It requires you boot to a CD before you can use the memory card, it's kind of a pain in the ass.

Sony 8MB memory cards have a MSRP of $35, which is what most places sell them for.

They have them for $23.95 at the Walmart by me, unfortunately they never have them in stock. Everyone should go check theirs to see if they are in stock, (actually, i'd call first).

This is a deal not for the price but the fact that this store has them in stock. In case you guys aren't aware, there is a huge shortage of Sony memory cards for the PS2. Supposedely they had production problems and most places have only recieved one or two shipments of cards since December. If you need one now, good luck finding one. Luckily, I've still got some space free on mine.
