viper, i remember seeing a story about this once. apparently some people got confused with the term shareholder and sharecropper. they used a shareholder credit of some kind and claimed a "standardized" deduction or something just cause they were black. some losers would charge a fee to prepare the IRS form, which obviosuly didnt apply to them but would "give" them enough of a deduction to make it worth the fee

It's simple tax fraud. tell them they are committing fraud give them an opportunity to pay the tax penalties and interest. if they don't then hammer them just like any other tax cheat. Skin color is not an excuse for committing tax fraud.

The IRS needs to demand that money returned, on the consequence of prison time, loss of property, etc. The "african americans" (god forbid I be politically incorrect) so DO NOT deserve ANYTHING more. Actually according to the article it seem that those who claimed it were being scammed. I don't think it's as much a case of Blacks thinking they are owed as it is the fact they were led to believe that it was a legal deduction. If I could get credit for being an ancestor of a Slave I'd take it. If I could get credit for being left handed I'd take that too. In fact if I was able to avoid paying income tax altogether I wouldn't complain at all.

Anyway, what's with the IRS paying it out in the first place?
