This is my first post let me know what you think. As you can see I am kinda new to anandtech. I really like the deals ive found here so i thought i would try to contribute as well

Just watch out for this router, I found the print server to be slow and my download speeds were 15% slower with the SpeedStream than with the SMC router I have. I do like the software that comes with it though.

Are the print servers specific to only certain models of printers? I have an hp laserjet 1100 and was told that these kind of print servers wouldn't work with it.

Anyone else get one of these to work with a hp laser printer?

I thought it was a wireless router, but guess not. Spend a few more dollars and get the wireless model 2624 elsewhere.

I had this router also and found the print server to be about 1/2 the speed of a hp jetdirect box.....that was using a hp 842 printer...otherwise worked great...

As far as I know the HP 1100 is a USB Printer in that case no this would not work as it has only a paralell Port

If you want wireless they also have the 2623 for a decent price. I already have all the rooms in my house wired though and don't want to sacrifice the 100MB file transer capabilities of Wired.

You're going to see the prices fall to the bottom with two types of DSL routers: the LAN-only, and the 82.11b since the spec for 82.11g has been approved.

I have this one (or one very similar; the box picture looks different) and like others have said, the speed is a bit slow. The 100mbps network switch speed alone is about 60% of what my Linksys switch can do. But on the plus side, it all worked right out of the box, which is more than I can say for some other makes/models I've tried. It doesn't run too hot, which is nice too.

I have this model too, as stated the printserver is slooooow, but that doesn't really bother me. I find the speed on the network to be about the same as with my previous smc and dlink routers...but I love the Siemens' web interface. It's so much nicer and easier to use than any other soho router I've ever used!

I picked up two of these for ~$40 about a month ago, from Tiger Direct. I used one to replace a Linksys BEFSR11/10Mbps hub config, and I haven't seen any slower download speeds. No speed change at all on a 768/128Kbps DSL line. I don't use the print server, so I don't have anything to say on that subject, but the router itself works beautifully.

The other one went to my best friend's apartment, for the LAN I have set up there, and he hasn't had any slowdowns, or actually, any complaints with it. He's on a 1.5Mbps cable line.

Seems like a pretty good router to me. Relatively easy to configure, firewall's better than the Linksys (using the BEFSR11, i was typically getting between several dozen and several hundred logged attacks/day that were blocked by ZoneAlarm. after swapping routers, i've had 0 (ZERO!)), doesn't lock up if the modem loses sync (BEFSR11 would be totally inaccessable when the DSL modem lost sync)... Like I said, seems like a good router. *shrug*

For me my download speed is 1255Kbps through DSL reports or lax.speakeasy.net using my old SMC, now with the Speedstream I could not get higher than 1059Kpbs. It worked fine other than that and the printer server speed. I am using one my inlaws for a printer downstairs, so they can print through their wireless network. I have installed 3 others I picked up free or almost free through Office Depot, for people with Verizon DSL and there speeds were fine 768/128.

Will this router work as a hub or switch? I already have a router, but I would like to get this to use as a hub and print server. Will it work on my current network?

Yes this will work as a switch. mine is setup as a switch with the siemens 2624 wireless router.

Printer option is parallel only. At least you guys with slow printer connections got it to work - I dealt with Siemens tech support for 2 weeks before I finally gave up and returned my wireless version of this. Nothing would make it work with my HP 930C or 970Cxi printers. After making me jump through a bunch of hoops, they finally conceded "yeah, we have problems with those printers..."

I had some problems with outbound port 80 and my http server. Sometimes it would not honor http requests for minutes at a time. I think it's the built in anti-DOS software, even though I turned it off. Other port forwarding seemed ok though.

I picked it up FAR, so I can't complain. 🙂 I wouldn't pay $30 for it, though - I'm sure there are brands out there (Linksys, DLink, and Netgear come to mind) that can be had for about the same price, especially when their respective rebates are running.
