Your price is really good, I had bought mine for close to $300.
But after those awsome Cybergenie's these seem .... well..

I did egay the Siemens set right after my first tests with the Cybergenie.

Siemen's handset have about half the lifetime of the CG's in terms of battery. Siemens uses 2 AA NiCd whereas CG's come with 3 AAA NiMh.

Soundquality of both is same, but reception of the Siemens is not as good as the CG.
But CG is much more sensible to Microwave ovens.

Siemens has a better menu for the handset, it is easier to navigate than CG.

And of course CG needs a PC to really use it's immense functionality.
It won't even let you choose line#2 to dial from with the handset, if the program is not running on the PC.

The answering machine from Siemens is a joke, very fuzzy and digitizxed, whereas CG uses the PC's harddrive space to store messages.

I was quite eager to get rid of the Siemens, but the finish and quality of Ericcson's CG is quite superior to Siemens, and all the factors outweighted the Siemens. Somehow the Siemens have a good reputation, but CG is unknown to the market. Therefore I could get rid of the Siemens wothout much loss.

Another important difference is that the Siemens has a functioning basestation, CG doesn't.

So if you want great functionality combined with a chic design and smaller phone with longer battery time, then CG is for you.

But if you want a simple and more expensive phone, then Siemens is the better choice for you.

I too had a Siemens 2420 prior to snagging a few CyberWeeies, er I mean CyberGenies. Oddly, earlier this year I passed on the CG because of the price (then $500 whereas the 2420 could be had for $300). I think the display of the siemens handsets is done a little better than that of the CG (bigger display, numbers change size to fit the screen, more soft buttons...) HOWEVER it's too bad that neither of them have lighted keys.

I was initially disappointed with the Siemen's use of 2 'AA' batteries but have since realized what a great design it really is: You will always be able to find decent rechargeable 'AA' batteries while the 'packs' found in most cordless phones are harder and more expensive to come by. Sure you can create your own pack, but it's more of a pain especially since the CG battery packs do not seem to be available anymore.

The best part about using 'AA' batteries in the Siemens handset is that you can slap in some high capacity rechargeables. The stock batteries are 600 MAh, I put in some Kodak 1600 MAh and can talk on those babies for a REALLY LONG time without fear of a dead handset.

Naturally I'm switching to the CyberGenie now but I did like the Gigaset and feel it's made quite well (in USA) although the build quality of the CG is also quite high (from China).

Vtech: Vtech started out making electronic toys and then made cheapo phones, now they are making higher end phones. I personally don't care for them. Their main selling point is that they are CHEAP. The few I've had haven't lasted long and I don't think they are made very well. I'd buy a Vtech for a kids phone or a garage. This is of course just my opinion.

Panasonic: Until recently this was my phone of choice. I bought one of their gigarange SST phones w/ answering machine and thought the phone looked and felt really cool (silver) however the answering machine was awkward to use and worst of all while using the phone it would occasionally SCREAM static in my ear. Perhaps I had a defective phone but this happened enough that I returned the thing and bought a Siemens Gigaset.

Siemens: I think they have a great system - it can be a bit pricey but if you plan on having multiple extensions it makes great sense. If it wasn't for the cybergenie I would still be using mine. The ability to add extensions without having to physically plug each one into a phone jack is a major plus! The handsets operate and have features much more like a cellular phone than a typical home phone - such as a menu system on the handset, dial by name phonebook, customizable ringers and tones, soft function keys, you can pull up the last 10 numbers dialed, look through your caller ID and add someone to your phonebook...... The Gigaset handsets let you conference, transfer calls between handsets, intercom between handsets, and you can even send your phone book from one handset to another. The whole system is made in USA and of very high quality IMHO. As immortalis has mentioned it has a base station (as opposed to the CG) where you can retrieve messages as well as retrieving them via the handset. Unfortunately it doesn't cradle too well so I end up using a headset most of the time. If you pop in some high capacity 'AA' batteries these phones will go a LONG LONG time.

If you're in the market I'd recommend trying one and if you aren't pleased you can always return / exchange it for another one.

buy.com had outstanding prices on the gigasets for while (handsets for $80) but the price recently shot up to $100.

Please note that 2.4GHz doesn't necessarily mean increased range over a 900MHz phone. It's simply another portion of the spectrum that isn't as crowded. HOWEVER microwave ovens mess up your 2.4GHz reception! My old Sony 900MHz digital spread spectrum phone has better range than the Siemens gigasets. If you want the ultimate in range you might want to look into the Engenius phone (also available at OD).
