This is Sapphire's new HD7870 OC model, which replaced older models that had power delivery issues: http://www.techpowerup.com/174858/S...Affected-by-quot-Black-Screen-quot-Issue.html

This is Black Friday level pricing. $195AR for Sapphire's overclocked 1050MHz model, with a free copy of Far Cry 3 and Hitman: Absolution.

And this also happens to be the shortest HD7870 available - at 8.86". Most HD7870s are between 9.5" and 11.5" long.

Possibly the only thing this card doesn't have going for it is the color scheme...

Not so sure about that - it looks like a code for FC3 and a discount coupon for Hitman. The total value is $70.

Yes its FC3 and a Hitman coupon. Also i have to assume the FarCry3 is like the others they are giving away which is only playable till october 2013 or around there. Which may or may not bum ya out.

    Thanks for clarifying...

and glad you got in on the deal!

Well, it's about the same or lower price than most HD7850 2GB models, so I think it's a pretty good choice.

How does it compare to this GTX 660? $157 AR.. I'm trying to keep it near the $150 mark also.

thats a gtx560. the 7870 is at least twice as fast and comes with two new games. based on your post, it makes me question what your current setup is.

Sorry, meant 560. My setup is:

    i5-3570k @ 3.4ghz
    Hyper212+
    Gigabyte Z77x-3DH
    8GB Ballistix Sportz
    Corsair TX750

Some of my friends don't like AMD, don't know if they're just bad luck.
Here is the GTX 660 for $179.

For the 660 at $180 and the 7870 at $195, it's about even for price/performance. The 7870 is about 5-10% faster. That being said, this Sapphire is questionable, it's also the one which had black screen issues a while ago, but they claim that it's been fixed.

Thanks OP! I'll use this as a starter to upgrade my pc. What would be a good cpu/mobo to pair with this?

You might want to take that question to the CPU or General Hardware forums, but the go-to gaming CPU right now is the 3570K, paired with a z77 board, like the Asrock z77 series (Pro3, Extreme3, Pro4, Extreme4).

Again, if you have more questions, you might want to start a General Hardware thread.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the Gigabyte GV-R787OC-2GD ($229)?

I can tell you right now that the 20% off coupon won't work. I bought a 7970 with 3 games and the medal of honor coupon. When I went to look at purchasing the medal of honor, they had already discounted it to $35.99 and the coupon doesn't work.

Huh? I got Farcry 3 from AMD through one of their video card promotions. You're saying come October 2013, the game will no longer work?

Only playable until then or do they mean the key for installing expires then?

so tempted ... i'm running a HD 5850 right now so this would be a significant upgrade.

it's also an inch or so shorter which is good because the 5850 barely fits in my full tower case.

would gladly trade the games for another few bucks off though

This looks pretty good for the price.

I got a 3770K for $105 through Intel. This would be a great complement for running games at 1920x1200 w/ 4xAA, no?

    Edit: I bit.

The game key will expire october 2013. meaning it will be unplayable. I had to contact AMD support to verify cause i was a bit confused. They definetly worded it oddly but thats the jist of it. You can play for 1 year enjoy :'(

guess i worded it odd as well. The game corresponding with the promo serial number will be unplayable come october 2013. It has nothing to do when the key will be validly accepted to play.
