Hot running 5900

My PC has been locking up in games a bit lately (game will freeze up, sound will loop for a second, then game unfreezes) so I cleaned out ALL Nvidia drivers with Driver Cleaner and reinstalled the 56.72 ForceWares. While poking around the control panel resetting the refresh rate override stuff I noticed the GPU was running 65C idle. My prior 5900 (RMAed due to a loose VIVO dongle) ran about 40-45C idle, so this was a shock to me. I decided to run 3DMark03 and see what it got up to under load and I saw this. Is it RMA time again? :( Both fans on the GPU are running and the card isn't overclocked.

YIKES!!! I would make sure you have good air flow in the case. Also make sure that your VC's heatsink is flush on the core. You may also want to take off what ever thermal compound that is on it and apply some AS5 or whatever you are using.

Nothing about the case's airflow has changed since the last 5900 was in it, in fact I've cleaned up some cabling and it's still higher. Already replaced the thermal pad with AS.

I know this might seem like a dumb question, but is the fan spinning on the VGA heatsink? By the looks of it, it doesn't seem like it.

And to think I thought 50°C was high under load with my water cooling setup. (seriously)

Wow... I would definately start looking to RMA. The highest my 5900U ever gets is 73C under full load.

The highest my 5900U (BFG) gets under load is about 60C. It doesn't seem like the fan is spinning on your card or the heatsink isn't even in contact with the core. 113 is reeaallly bad.

Fan isn't spinning.
My fan died on my 5900, and that's exacly what happened. 60C idle, and 100+ C in games. Run for about 15 minutes, and crash.
Stick a big fan on there, or RMA.

I already said in the OP that both fans on the heatsink are spinning.

I ran a FX5900 for a while and it reported the same idle temps as you but for whatever reason, when I touched the heatsink it wasn't even warm. I just attributed it to a busted sensor because at full load, it said it was running at 101 C and thats boiling temp for water, yet the heatsink was only just slightly above warm. Not enough to burn my finger.

If the fans are spinning as you say, the only 2 other possibilities are: Heatsink is not in contact with the core, or the core is defective. RMA it.

It was a joke as well as the "STFU n00b" option because morons will always pick the first option without reading the poll.

I'll call BFG when I get home :(.
