No, it's not VIVO. No video out. No TV tuner. It's the full retail version. There is no 32 meg version of this card with video out or a TV tuner.

If there are any GeForce 256 users on the fence out there, BUY THIS CARD. I moved from a CL Annihilator Pro, and the Radeon is much better. UT never looked this good, and DVD playback is much better (DVD player is included on the CD, a nice perk).

I just yanked my Geforce 256 out and put in the Radeon. What a difference! It totally kicks the Geforce 256's ass. The 2d text is so much sharper and clearer on my 21" monitor it's like night and day. I felt like I was looking at my monitor through someone elses prescription glasses. I never realized how truly bad the fuzziness was with the Geforce until now. I'm very impressed. Image quality is awesome, and 3d games performance is excellent. ATI has finally done it right -big time. I'm so glad I got this card.

By the way, if you play UT in OpenGL mode, I suggest downloading the newest driver from ATI's Web site. It's only an incremental increase (and I'll warn you, it's a 12-meg download for inexplicable reasons), but it boosted my already great UT performance.

Of course, you should download the v432 UT patch if you haven't already, too. Addresses some OpenGL compatibility issues.

Tech TV gave us a
heads up that one of our fave graphics cards, ATI's new
Radeons, can't capture video from a camera and run
Internet based videoconferncing software. (Such as
Netmeeting.) Nada! It seems to be a problem between the
Radeon and Microsoft's WDM

Rosebud:

What is WDM?

I have no problem using my Radeon with a camera and NetMeeting. What exactly are you talking about?

Thanks. Great deal. I can finally ditch my V3 3000 for something that offers significantly better UT performance at a decent price.

I just did a search on TechTV.com, and all I could find was an article praising the Radeon All-in-Wonder.

Rosebud, don't leave us hanging. What are the compatibility problems?? I want to know now so I can figure out how serious this is.

MontyBurns,

I think it's doing both those things at the same time that causes a problem. Also, this is more of a Rage 128/Pro problem than Radeon, I think. WDM = Windows Driver Model. It's how ME and Win2K like their drivers.

How does the 32MB Radeon compare to the All In Wonder 32MB Radeon version?

Is it the exact same performance/dvd playback on both cards but the AIW has all the extra other hardware?

Mine from Buy.com (with coupon - cheaper than outpost) just got here today! Went in as soon as I got home form the workjob. It is replacing my OC'ed VD3-2000 and all I can say is,

YOWIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! why didn't anybody tell me UT could look this good!?! Holy SH1T!?!

Went right in, no probs! I am running 98SE (for now) on a Duron600/989 on an ABit Kt7-Raid.

All visual tests look absolutely fantastic!!!

Get this board if you are serious about anything more than Highest fps, it does "pretty (DAMN!) OK" in that too!

That's all.

:p

<< Think about it. The CPU and motherboard is so much more powerful and comprehensive (as far as technology is concerned), and yet most good setups cost less than 200 dollars. I think video card manufacturers are ripping people off blind. >>

Um no, maybe YOU should think about it. CPUs designs last for several years, only they're 'tweaked' every so often to offer better mhz. Mobos aren't exactly the most complicated things... all the designers have to do is slap together the chipsets and make sure thigns work (ok, it's not exactly that easy, but that's the gist of it). They're also sold in MUCH greater quantity than vid cards are, so they can afford to have a smaller profit margin. Vid cards are also progressing at a faster rate than CPUs and mobos are, and although a design may last a generation or two, they're pretty much re-engineered every couple of years.

$250 for a vid card isn't asking too much for a top performance card. Hell, a leather jacket cost about the same as a vid card, and the leather jacket doesn't have the overhead of a team of engineers, technical support staff, software/drivers engineers, and a silicon fabrication plant, and whatever unknown overhead that might be involved in the design, manufactuering, and distribution of a vid card.

Their profit margins aren't exaclty the most lucrative either. In the last couple of years, we've seen Hercules go bellyup (they're still around because Guillemot bought them) and Diamond getting out of the vid card business.

ATI sucks CRAP. I have never seen such shotty, incompatible merchandise come out of a (and they don't deserve this title) COMMERCIAL business. DON'T BUY ANYTHING BY ATI! PLEASE! Find a G-Force for cheap somewhere!!!

first, I agree with your logic that a good video card can cost as much as a leather jacket, but you are missing about 30 levels of design, production and material cost. Including that of the feeding of the materials from birth to death. hehe

However, I still assertain that the technology required to make a CPU and mobo are far greater than that of a video card. These video card manufacturers get nearly all of the work done for them by nVidia. All they have to do is come up with clever marketing. Which most of them fail at miserably.

Therefore, if one company could make a video card at such a level of quality with enough people to keep overhead low, and as few marketing goofballs making up piss-poor slogans, then they might be able to sell enough video cards for as little as possible in order to sell millions so that everyone get them.

And get off it! Obviously it is not that hard to produce an excellent card for less than 200 dollars, since it is being done all the time !! all major vid companies are shooting for that mark (about 150) and they are finally starting to get it right.

For my buck, I will take that radeon any day over the geforce 2mx, and WAY over the voodoo4 4500!

yes, I have seen all the benchmarks, I know the speed comparison yada yada. But the screen resolution just LOOKs sooo much better. The FPS might be a little less, but if you can actually notice while playing q3 at 800x600, youve got more serious issues to address

TimeThrash: I hate when people post such idiotic nonsense. Scroll up and you'll read many of us recount how this card screams with the most popular games, and you write that it's shotty and incompatible -- no examples, no specifics, no nothing. Just that it's crap.

What does that mean? Did you have a bad experience? With what game? What's your computer setup? Do you even own this card?

I'm a game freak, and I've got just about every major game out there. So far, not a single compatibility problem. No need to download special drivers. Full compatibility, incredible performance. So, since you're convinced the card is so incompatible, can you name ONE program it won't work with? Just one?

I agree. This stupid thread crapping is ridiculous. Too bad MODS can't delete individual posts in a thread.

EDIT: The Radeon is a great card at this price. However, the very bad performance of the drivers in Win2K led me to skip this deal. Hopefully ATI can work on that.

How does this card work in WinME? The only games I play really often are UT, football games, and (soon) Tony Hawk 2...

I've never seen UT look better than on my Viper II because of the S3TC textures (the second disk of UT)... My neighbor's GF2 looks like 8bit nintendo when you compare the quality of the textures and I get 60fps at 10x7x32...

However, the only drivers I can find that work with WinME cause these random annoying screen corruptions in 2D mode... And of course since there will be no future driver support I kinda hafta get rid of this card soon...

LONG LIVE ATI! Proud owner of ATI Xpert@Play 98, ATI Rage Fury 128, ATI Rage Fury MAXX, Radeon or Radeon II next. Too bad not Radeon MAXX. I was looking forward to that.
