Really good deal on a basic laptop.

* AMD Athlon 2650e Processor
* 2GB DDR2 RAM
* 160GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive
* Super Multi 8x DVD Double-Layer Drive
* ATI Radeon X1200
* 10/100 Network
* 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED®
* 14.1" Widescreen XGA High-Brightness Display
* Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic

Not going to blow anything out of the water, but pretty good for someone looking to get a cheap laptop for web surfing, office, multimedia, etc.

not bad at all... i have a 2650e in a server and its a pretty decent cpu (it was from a laptop). these laptops have standard am2 sockets too, so if you dont care about battery life they will usually be fine taking a 45W chip.

So your saying we could buy this a put in any am2 45 w chip? How hard is it to remove?

I think that this is a great alternative to a netbook. My only beef is that it only has 1 SODIMM, meaning that this thing maxes out at 2GB of RAM. Running Vista, and just a few applications could get yucky in a hurry. It might be better if you can put XP on it.

i haven't personally done it, but its supposed to be really easy. most laptops you just pop the keyboard off, and unscrew a heatpipe. i know a lot of the used 2650e chips are from people who have done this, thats how i ended up with my 2650e, bought used off someone who did it.

FYI:

1. You can put XP on this (drivers are on eMachine's site)
2. You can upgrade: CPU (up to 2.6ghz X2, $59), RAM (max 4gb), HDD (up to 500gb or SSD), Wifi (802.11n if you'd like)

This has a curved keyboard, which I really like since I have to use ergonomic stuff to type, and the screen is FABULOUS. It's a glossy screen and it's totally not dim or low-end like a lot of Compaqs and other cheapo brands. I love mine 😀

Totally not true - the eMD620-5133 has 2 RAM slots that can take 2GB each - I put 3 gigs in mine for XP (1x1gb + 1x2gb). You can put 4 gigs in too, but I only had a spare 2GB at the time 😀 XP runs great on it, they have drivers for everything at eMachines site! More links & info on my old thread here:

So any X2 CPU up to 2.6GHz should work?

Intel® Celeron® Processor 900 (1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 35W)
