Why is Coolmax on the list to avoid power supplys over here... Here
Same goes for the Ultra.

With one post it seems as if you work for performance PCS. These deals aren't very hot for performance PCs. Maybe for a budget build.

that list is a joke if you ask me, apparently they want everyone to believe that all quality PSU's must cost at least $100 before they're even capable/worthy of being 'performance'.

please, i've been overclocking since day 1 and have been using ONLY power supplies that are under $100, and have YET to have so much as a single issue with anything, and i've been using at least 3 hard drives and 2 opticals, overlocked cpu's, overclocked gpu's, fans and lights galore, you name it.

this is the same as saying you need SLI-7900gtx to play half life 2 smoothly.

I agree. I would not buy a PSU over $60. I am not sure about the quality of these PSU's you might want to read seperate reviews. That list seems a bit general, but its a good rule of thumb. I have read many reviews at online merchants on the Ultra X-connect's breaking very soon after use.

If you guys are clueless about powersupplys, i'd highly suggest you head over

here

and make yourself knowledgeable as to WHY some are good and WHY some are bad. Or, you can just skip to the end for the list of recommended powersupplys.

Welcome to AT, mriccucci

You have a strong affinity for performance-pcs.com

Why does it always look suspicious when one's first post starts out like this? Hmmmm.

I'm afraid we're a little too picky to pay post-$100 for a coolmax though, and the ultras, while possibly worth $20 for an old system, can be had as regularly recurring deals at Radio Shack, IIRC.

$280 after rebate is just obscene though, I'd sooner buy insurance and hire a rent-a-kid to stand over the system with a fire extinguisher. All kidding aside, 1000W should never be pulled from a PS2 (even extended length) form factor unit. That's full sized server territory for a reason, they don't just make them larger on a whim.

"mriccucci" may have some affiliation with Perf PC, but it is owned by Hank Baron, also known as "Rainguy" who was a very active trader here years ago.
