I'm not sure how well it works or if it even works (I haven't put mine on yet), but it was cheap and I thought, "What the hell..." Brand is GO-net and it has the adapter and a disc. These are new in the box. Says USB 10/100 Ethernet on it. Original price is $9.99 with 50% off sticker on it. YMMV. I got this at the Robbinsdale/Crystal Gamestop just offa HWY 100 in Minnesota.

Don't get this go-net adapter. New PS2 broadband enabled games use DNAS to stop cheaters. DNAS basically checks your PS2's hardware's configuration to detect cheating devices. The way it works is it checks for mod chips and non SONY branded devices attached to your PS2. Guess what happens if you use a go-net adapter to play Socom 2... NO MULTIPLAYER GAMING FOR YOU! Any new game that has come out with support for broadband play uses DNAS to check for cheating devices!! STAY CLEAR of this adapter and get the official SONY ethernet adapter. On the otherhand, if you just plan to play on a Local Network with friends (all of you bring your PS2 and a TV to one place and hookup all the PS2's onto a router for example) instead of going online, this adapter should be perfectly fine....

just my 2 cents...

Also, in rare chance that you want to use the Sony hard drive (FF XI), you would be out of luck since these generic ethernet adaptors don't have the connection to the HDD like Sony's does.

Which is probably why, with the upcoming release of FFXI on PS2, that stores are trying to get rid of these. If they don't do it by then, then they will probably be sitting around their store until they GIVE them away.

Like zeddic said, I'm sure at $5 it's awesome for a PS2 LAN deal, but online... definately not. Hot as hell if you want to LAN with it.

Hmmm I wonder if these would work as USB Ethernet adapters on a PC. That might make the deal somewhat hot.

This thing isn't even worth the $5. I got one about three months ago for $12, and it's a piece of crap. Works with hardly ANY games at all.. in fact, the only game it DID work with was Tony Hawk 4 and that's IT.

(I tried ATV Offroad Fury II, Tony Hawk's Underground, Need for Speed Underground, Midnight Club II, and NHL Hitz Pro 2004)

Yes, it does, actually, but only with Windows XP.. It's attached to my sister's PC right now.

Wow, based on these replies, I might just return it without even opening it.

I returned it without even opening it. I didn't have any games that required me to go online anyway. I think I bought it cuz it was $5. Damn me!

Dude they is free after rebate:

Interestingly, that USB network adaptor is listed in the description as "USB 2.0", but then when you scroll down to the "detailed description" info, it's listed as USB 1.0/1.1.

I would personally prefer spending $5 out-of-pocket and walking out of the store with it, than waiting for rebates, but I might change my mind a bit, I've had decent sucess recieving the last 8 or so rebates I sent in for various computer-related things.

Anyways, I bought this PS2 GO-Net "broadband adaptor" back when EBX had it marked down to $15 retail, on the chance that it works with a PC. The lowest comparable price I could find at the time, for PC-specific-branded USB 1.1 network adaptors, after searching the various retail circulars, was around $19.

The chipset used in those adaptors is an ADMTek "Pegasus II" chipset, and you can get OEM reference drivers on their Taiwan web site that work perfectly peachy on any Windows-family OS. I actually found that the performance of this device was better than that of my onboard Via KT400/8235 built-in ethernet, which was a surprising result, a USB device beating out a PCI device in performance.

You might also check out the Datel 4-port USB 1.1 hub, marketed for PS2, but again, works fine for a PC, for $4.99 at GameStop. It's only bus-powered, not self-powered (no wall-wart), but for some things that's just fine, and still half the price of any other comparable PC-branded mini 4-port USB 1.1 hub.
