HOT PEPPERS

Anyone else grow and eat hot peppers?

Got any recommendations?

I'll go through my list...

Habanero and Scotch Bonnet

Disgusting. I figured if I'm gonna be a hot pepper guy I'm gonna eat every kinda hot pepper I come across.

After almost passing out, losing feeling in my face while my mouth felt like I was smelting iron for 15 straight minutes, and halucinating among other things, it was terrible and I won't do it again for a long time.

I can only assume it'd be good as a sauce. Other than that, yuck. Interesting note, they got me high. I guess after that ordeal it just felt good to be alive.

Jellybean Peppers

Another disgusting pepper. My brother and I took extra care with these and wanted to grow them right.

Maybe we grew them too right but I dunno. We both popped on of these tiny pea sized peppers and almost died at the same time. It blew up in my mouth and tasted like caustic chemical burn.

It was exceptionally bad. Not as hot as a hab, but twice as disgusting. The only good thing about this is these tiny bushes grow like 4 million peppers and they're small. So we took a habanero, stuffed it with like 6 Jellybeans, brought it to the barbers and gave some kid a free haircut for eating it. The kid almost died.

He ran outside, started puking everywhere, started slamming his fists on random cars in the parking lot and keeled over.

There he was, laying next to his own vomit, bright red crying after punching random strangers cars in the middle of a parking lot facing an intersection while we waved cars through to let them know he'd be fine.

I paid for his haircut.

Bermuda Pepper

Right now my favorite. It's got some kick ass but it's got flavor too.

Tough to find but once you find some seeds, plant, and dry a pepper you have infinite seeds,

If you come across these, get some, great for cooking.

Lemon Pepper

I didn't like these when we grew em last year.

They were interesting but that's it.

They taste literally, like hot lemons. Citrus fire. Wierd.

Jalapenos

mmmm

Just as good as the Bermudas. You can't go wrong with these.

I completely screwed up fresh jalapeno poppers the first time I made them, and they were still delicious.

Sandwhichs, eggs, breakfast lunch and dinner, these are great.

I also have Jamaican, Charlston, Peppersoncini and some kind of Cayenne. The Cayenne looking peppers we grew last year looked friggin awesome, but they had no heat at all. It was the weirdest thing.

Nothing, no heat, but looked like they were on fire. So I use to eat them to prove to friends that it wasn't so bad. I'd down 3 at a time, which tasted like regular red peppers, and act like it's no big whoop. Then I'd give them one with the heat. Good times.

Chilis

Another one of my favorites. Not as good as the jaleps or bermudas IMO but good none-the-less.

I can walk around and nibble on one all day. They're up there with cayennes in my book. One of the best peppers but not the best IMO

So anyone else eat peppers?

If not try some of the ones I mentioned.

I also keep a jar of Pepperoncinis in the fridge at all times.

Me talking to myself about hot peppers is makin me hungry.

I use hebaneros in Hot and Sour soup. I use half a pepper in a large stock pot. Adds very pleasent heat. Its not ment to be eaten raw. On the Scoville scale they reach 200.000 units.

Yea tell me about it.

When I ate a raw one straight up, picked no more than an hour earlier, I wasn't lieing when I said it got me high.

I heard dogs barking in my closet, swear to goodness. But I felt great.

They'd probably be good in chili.

Blair's Mega Death Sauce is serious, real serious, but perfect for chili.

I use the other sauce like Franks or Louisianna in spaghetti or on my bacon egg and cheeses etc.

My cousins a chef and gets Satan's Blood which serve's no real purpose (considering it's 800K scovilles)

I wanna get som Blairs 4 A.M. Reserve though

4 MILLION scovilles. That's practically a narcotic.

Make sure you wash you hands after cutting those peppers.

Back in college when I worked at an Italian place - one of the guys forgot to wash his hands after cutting the peppers - he then went to the bathroom......

and let's just say he had to go home :Q

(not sure how he managed to keep his hands on the wheel either ;) )

Dude you are lucky nothing serious happened. Eating habanero like can cause inflamation of the throat and sinus and can cause convultion for some people. You got high because of endorphine overload.

I rubbed my eye once while cooking and was cutting jalapenos. I flushed my eye with water for 30 mins and it was red the whole day :)

I grow jalapenos. Was a great year for peppers here in the northeast. After a cold and rainy spring it got hot and sunny and stayed hot and sunny until last week. That's perfect jalapeno growing weather and I got a nice crop. I pickle them, they'll keep until next years batch is ripe. That's about all I grow though. I'm no gardener, just pop the pepper plants in next to the girlfriends tomatoes. Nothing else really worth growing to me. Habaneros are too hot to be really useful for anything except pots of chili and anything milder than jalapenos is dull. But jalapenos are perfect, just the right amount of heat and flavor to give food zest without making it dangerous.

There's Blairs 16 million reserve.

Yes, 16 million scoville units.

http://www.hotsauceblog.com/hotsaucearchives/blairs-16-million-product-review/

There's how you use it.

Yes, it's crystal. Equivalent to eating 50 red savana habaneros at once.

No it's not. A red savina is somewhere north of 500,000 Scoville units. So what you meant to say was that it would be like eating 32 red savina's at one. However, even that would be wrong. Eating 32 habaneros or 50 habaneros is no different from eating one habanero. It's just a larger volume of the same heat, the intensity doesn't multiply with each succeeding pepper. It's 32 times worse than eating a single red savina, not the same as eating 32 of them.
