Part of it is picked up from TB!

If you already own the DSL/Cable router, here is a cheap and easy way to add wireless capabilities to your network:

Order DWL-900AP for $99.88 and USR2410 for $69.88

There is a rebate of $50 on the AP and $30 on the card.

AP Rebate
Card Rebate

Final price - 99.88 + 69.88 - 50 - 30 = $89.76 + shipping + tax

tigerdirect has the same PCMCIA card for $35 AR.

BTW this is pretty much a repost I posted this weeks ago, but the access point is a fairly good deal.

I bought the USR 2410 because it was cheap and I didn't think I needed anything spectacular in my little apartment. It was less than adequate. First of all it will not do WEP with my Dlink 713P. I kept WEP off. The signal fluctuated quite a bit. It had very poor range and would lose the signal often enough that it was a pain. I finally sent it back. I found a reasonable Orinoco gold card on eBay. The signal is strong and I have yet to lose a connection. It will not do WEP with my 713P however. If you want WEP you're better off buying clients / AP's of the same brand. I would rate the USR2410 below average. There's a reason it's being blown out...

Thanks for posting this.

For anyone who is interested, I bought 2 SMC Barricade 7004AWBR, one D-Link 900AP, one D-Link DI711 and one USR 2415. I sold one of the SMCs and both D-Link products on ebay (making about $25-$45 on each piece). This meant that my total deal was $100 (for SMC after MIR) + $40 (for USR after MIR) - ~$100 = ~$40 for a wireless network at home :D

Does this DWL-900AP access point have the ability to bridge? i.e. buy two of these, put one in each wired router, and then have them bridge the two wired networks together?

I have tried WEP with several different branded components and have never had a problem. I suggest you look for a replacement for your AP.

Regardless, I think the DLink cards are a good deal for most wireless users. You are not going to get the best sensitivity (range) from these cards (when compared to the Airlink+, Cisco, Orinoco, or some of the newer designs). But I highly doubt this will make a difference to most people.
