Hot or Not?: Palm III for 49.99 at JandR (NYC only)

I called in sick on Monday so I could be at JandR at 10:50am to pick up a manufacturer refurbished Palm III for 49.99. Needless to say I got one (limit one per customer). It comes in a generic white box with a manufacuter's SKU Sticker on the side. I am not sure if this deal is HOT enough to warrant it's own thread though. The Palm III package includes, a Palm III( and stylus), two Duracell Ultra AAA Batteries, docking station (serial port), serial-parallel adapter, Palm III software for your PC, and several user manuals. You have to be at the side JandR Computer World entrance and GET A TICKET (no ticket no Palm!) by 11am and it's only for the first 100 customers. This will be going on until Saturday. Is this:
(A)Hot
(B)Warm
(C)Cold
(D)I am a senseless fruit for posting this

Thank you, drive through!

<< I think there's only one JandR B&M location. >>

Civ88 is right. There is only one J&R. It is located in City Hall. I will drop by and check it out after work at 5pm.

I remember this, it was there grand re-opening. The doors open at 10:00 and I got there like 10:10 and the damn line is like 2 blocks long and its not single file.

Taz, the line was so damn long that it stretches thru Pace.

J&R COMPUTER WORLD

It's located across the street from Staples which in turn is right next to City Hall. They have 8.5x11 poster of the Palm III deal on the front door and skewed about the store. The store is the newest one (the corner store) which was recently built. You can go there at 5pm to check it out but I doubt that you're gonna be able to get one (but if you ARE able to get one please write down step by step instructions on what you said/did and include the "yo momma" jokes). The ad (which you can pick-up at the store itself, please do since I don't have a scanner 🙁) clearly states that it is for the first 100 customers at 11am starting Sunday and goes all the way through to Saturday. You have to go to the side entrance (the one with the elevators to get a ticket (I repeat: NO TICKET NO PALM) be sure to get one. Limit 1 per customer no "if"s, "and"s or "but"s.

EDITED: To say that when I went there Monday the line wasn't that long and since they did start letting people buy them about 10-15mins. after 11am I was quickly out of there by 11:45am and I stopped to look at the monitor in that time frame. Oh, and there is no identifying numbers/letters on the tickets to tell who got there's first. What this means is that if you were to wait outside of J&R at 8:50am to get a ticket at 9am when the store opens you are not gonna be the first one to get a Palm if you leave and come back and there's a line! This one guy was pretty pissed off when he found that out on Monday! You're gonna need someone or something (like a dead dog) to reserve your space on line if you have to go to that pesky job of yours.
My advice: give one of the local bums 10 bucks to sit in front of the side entrance until you finish begging your boss for an early lunch and come back.

Damn, all the way to Pace? I think I'd rather go home right the way rather than waste my time to go check out. 🙁:Q🙂😉😛

yeah, nakanaka, that J&R. there is only one btw... you go to stuy, you should get familiar with J&R ;-)

taz, tell me about it, I went with couple of co-workers and we all just turn around and head back to work. There were at least a 500 people online.

Just in case people missed it I edited my second post to provide answers to people's questions but ust in case it has gone unnoticed I'll post the part I edited here:

I'd vote this as hot except for I'm way across in frickin Portland, OR, already own a Handspring Visor Deluxe for $109 and well 500 people in line that'd be frickin ridiculous!

Nice find though.

Just returned from J&R. All I can say if you wanna get a piece for yourself, you must spend very much time, maybe the whole morning, for this little refurbished Palm III. I asked the saleperson how I could get one. He said first I have to line up for a ticket and register. No ticket no Palm. After getting a ticket, I have to line up for the palm. I asked once I get the ticket, I still have to line up? He said yes. I still have to line up for the Palm. And then I asked what is the purpose to line up for the ticket if I still have to line up for the Palm? He said the ticket is to ensure I am qualified for the Palm. But don't they issue just 100 tickets for their 100 Palms a day? I doubt they may issue more than 100 tickets. I further asked when do people normally start lining up in the past few days. He said usually around 8am. 8am?! Geez, I won't spend so much time for a refurbished item. I'll pass.
