I've been looking for a decent 17" monitor that can support up to 1600X1200 max and will do 1280x1024 at something above 75hz. Well this monitor is perfectly flat (according to them, hard to tell by the picture) and supports up to 1600X1200 @ 75hz. The Viewsonic and NEC equivalents run for a little over 200 at respectable places.

At Frys/Outpost's website, they have this monitor for 179.99 with a printable $40 MIR (near the middle of the page), bringing the total down to 139.99 + shipping which I think is a pretty good deal for those kind of specs, but I'd like to get your opinions.

edit: (from my reply near the bottom)

Does anyone know if you can pricematch Fry's/Outpost to Staples.com... or vice versa? If so, could you PM Outpost to Staples price, 179.99 - 30 ($30 off 150 purchase coupon) and then you also get the $40 mir making the total 109.99 + shipping. or could you PM Staples to Outpost's price after mir making it 139.99, add something worth $10 to get the total to 150, apply the $30 off 150 coupon, and get free shipping making the total $120. Just a thought....

I've had this monitor for a couple months now($80 from old staples deal). Great monitor, flat screen, great refresh rates. In that old deal thread... the only gripe was quality control. It seems some of these monitors aren't exactly up to par out of the factory.

Other than that, I like the monitor alot. Mine hasn't had one issue and has a smaller footprint from my other 17". Of course I wouldn't run it higher than 1152x765 because my eyes can't handle anything higher than that on a 17".

if you're set on envision I'm pretty sure I saw that compusa has the 19" envision for $149 AR, I'd pay the extra $10 for lots more screen real estate (pluys a local store to take it back to if -- as is likely -- there is a quality problem)

good luck

At Staples you can get the 19in Version (I have it and like it) for $179 after $50 rebate...not including any coupons you might be able to scrounge up

15in LCD (also have and like ALOT) for $299 after rebate

food for thought

From past deals, 140 for es710 ( i think thats it), ensonic 17" is only warm.
The best deals are under 100$ and they are about every two or three months,
My recomendation is hold off for the hot deal... :)

Edit:
is this the true flat?? ok, I read the specs now........ flat face...
As I said, the 80$ deal was the en 710, (fishbowl .26)
so this is actually pretty good.
.21 mm? dp and 1600x1200 is really good quality, plus flat face.

Anyone else notice the description says .21, but the rebate says .26!
Not so good now, not bad, just not great.

I have a generic .26 17" and i like it.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I noticed, though, that most of the replies in here point to better deals on monitors that either aren't flat or have lesser (not sure what word to use) specs. Those 19" envision deals (179 and 139 at staples and compusa) are curved and support the same resolutions as this 17" flat model.

This one is perfectly flat, will do 1280X1024 at 85hz compared to 60hz on most of the other 17", is .21mm dot pitch, will go all the way up to 1600X1200, and has a 3 year warranty. Anyway, I think I might just hold out for another hot deal to come by, but I think this price is great for a monitor of that quality. TMO tho :p

I've got a $100 off of any Envision monitors @ Staples.

I'll be glad to pm you the coupon code if you want to give it a try.

Edit...
oops... I guess that $100 coupon could only be used once.
sorry about that giglo

I happen to own the 780e and it is a decent monitor. I got mine for $100 even with tax. I also have a Samsung 753df, which i got for about $90 after rebates and tax. I find that I like my 753df better. Text is sharper on the 753df compared to the 780e. Although, the refresh rates aren't as good as the 780e. The max i can get on my 753df is 1152x768x75hz, which is fine for me. I would not think of running the 780e @ 1280x1024 because the monitor does not have enough screen elements to display it discretely. I know some people do it anyway but i like clarity on my screen. For 139.99, I can't recommend the 780e.

I have the 780e that I got for $100 from Staples.com a few months ago. It is perfectly flat and is really nice. I'd say it is a great deal at $100 or less.

so does anyone know about the pricematching policy with fry/outpost and staples?

1. will they pricematch each other
2. if so, will frys/outpost pricematch the staples price after applying a 30 off 150 coupon
3. or, will staples match outpost's price after their mir

if no one replies, i guess i'll give it a shot myself tomorrow and let yall know :p
