Is the 8X DVD+RW Drive from OfficeMax for $119.99AR a good DVD burner? Who is it made by? I cannot get it to come up online at OfficeMax. Thanks, WolfpackRon.

Aren't dual format burners in the same price range now? Why limit yourself to +R?

you might want to try in the wanna thread or the periphals section for hardware suggestions.

If you'd bother to read through the threads on this forum, you'd see this thread here in the Hot Deals forum, which explains that it is NOT a +R/RW drive, but a +/- drive! I got the Optorite DD0401 :)

Definitely a hot deal, especially using the printable Staples $30 off $150 coupon available at FW. ;)

I could never see myself burning -R discs, +R is all around better and has almost the same compatibility (minus some older dvd players) and pretty much all new players support it. I would take an 8x +R burner over a +/- 4x any day! :D

The + and the - are just two competing formats for standarizing DVD disks. It is said that DVD-R media is more compatible with DVD players(???). Right now DVD-R media can be had for nearly 50% of the price of DVD+R media on the net. Most players are able to read from either type, but their particular 'inventors' always try to pimp their standard.

Did you have to open the box to determine whether it was an optorite or install it?
