I bought a Norcent RW531 @ BB, Nashua NH, for 19.99 AR for my collegue yesterday and it is rebadged Lite-on LTR 52327S (52x32x52). I know this because I have bought Liteon+Avery label @ BB for 9.99 AR a few weeks ago. The differences are just no "www.liteonit.com" sticker on the tray and a sticker on the back of the drive is the Norcent badge. After I tested it in my computer it showed "LITE-ON" with firmware version QS04.

Hurry, it may last this Saturday, 20 Sep 2003.

After I have examined the BB rebate form it needs photocopy of UPC# 803802136171 and the receipt showed the Drive I have bought was RW521 and the adv. paper showed both RW521 and RW531 for Norcent CD-RW Drive. The UPC# of RW531 is 803802137185. What should I do?

As you know I am an alien, Please someone help me out !

If your drive looks like the pic on the box, it's not a Lite-On. Lite-On's have a single eject button shaped like a cold capsule. See the pick on a Memorex, Sony or Verbatim box to see what they look like. That doesn't mean they aren't also rebadging Lite-On's, just that they don't look like the one on the box. Here's a pic of the Memeorex.

For example, if you find a Verbatim, you have to know that the serial number on a rebadged Lite-On has all digits, and the ones with serial numbers containing letters are probabaly AOpen's.

"What should I do?"
i would go back and not leave until i get the money. bb may be getting strict/slick on their rebates... not allowing them on open-boxes, etc
good luck
norcent drives used to be benq right?
this is benq cdrw page
does the drive have little vents on the bottom? i have two 32x cdrw with those vents -- benq for sure -- although labeled as mecer

so what's the problem? your rebate wants the upc that you have.
unless you really meant you have 531. but that's not what you wrote.

My Norcent RW531 has ONE cold-capsule eject button. The one you see in the ad is 52x24x52, mine is 52x32x52. And if you read my first post carefully I stated that "After I tested it in my computer it showed "LITE-ON" with firmware version QS04." in Nero 5.

I got that, thanks. You posted a great deal for a Lite-On. I wouldn't bother with anything else. I just wanted others looking for the same deal to know what to look for. Lite-On 52x32x52 drives still have the same look they've had at least since I got my old 24x Litey.

And the good thing is the picture of Norcent RW531 drive that show on the box has one cold-capsule eject button as your comment and it also show "Smart-Burn Technology" too, then other people should not miss it by just seeing the outside of the box.

From the rebate form:
"If you have questions or wish to check on the status of your rebate, please call the Best Buy Rebate Center at 1-888-797-3956."

Call. Ask them what to do.

I hesitate to call to BB Rebate Center because of my Alien toung.

And after I call 1-800-849-0444 (from the bottom of the in-store rebate form) a CSR said these rebate forms cover both Norcent RW521 & RW531 models.

What do you think?

These Norcent 52x32x52 are definitely Lite-ons. The boxes have the serial number on the outside. They are 12 digits, no letters - a sure sign of a lite-on. I found an open box and took a look. It's got a Norcent label, but it's a lite-on for sure.

As far as the rebate center saying the RW531 is good for the rebate, I'd ask to get that in writing. The rebate forms they have online clearly state that the RW521 is the required model. Maybe the printed out forms say otherwise though.

"I hesitate to call to BB Rebate Center because of my"

most rebate center CSRs that _i've_ talked to, english was CLEARLY their second language
not a complaint, just an observation :)

for real! two separate om dunces (last night and today) went and got some cendynes with the alphanumeric instead of all digit -- i expressly told them all digit before they went into the room
i just gave up after the second try -- didn't need it anyway, just wanted to set up some double burn stations
