Hot? NewEgg Refurb GEIL 512mb 433mhz pc3500 for $99 Shipped

Good price for 512. However, many including myself, with AMD rigs (esp. Nforce2), have found that Geil memory doesn't perform anywhere near its rated speeds and timings. They have poor corporate customer support also. Since it is from Newegg it would be hard to go wrong. because they have great customer service, just don't expect much support from Geil. This is not intended to be thread crapping. I just wanted to warn others of my experience. I have the PC3500 platinum ultra (currently RMA'd with Geil).

2nd the motion, WAG! I have the NF7-S. I have heard that Geil does well with Intel systems, though.

I bought the dual channel 1 gig 433 golden dragon kit, but turned out one stick was bad..

I bought another 1 gig 433 kit but not the golden dragin and having it crossshipped..
Newegg customer service rocks

I'd advise against buying refurbished memory. Odds are the stick didnt run at its rated speeds and someone returned it. Get brand new memory, I'd stay away from GEIL unless you have a mobo that can give high memory voltages (2.9-3.2). Stay with what works, Corsair and HyperX and MUSHKIN.

I got a pair of Golden Dragon PC3200 2x 256MB. Runs fine on my 2.4C @ 3.0GHz at advertised timings, stock voltages. They're also the coolest (heatwise and looks) RAM I've ever used, they're barely warm to the touch without a heatspreader or anything.

Here here. 2nd that. Got the same setup, got the dual-channel kit when they were $99 from Newegg. They run great at rated speeds @3.0 GHz and you are right, the coolest looking RAM.ever.

The Buffalo memory uses Winbond chips.

I'd definately buy them- Newegg has them for $99 but charges $4 per stick to ship. Blah.

Personally I would not buy refurbished memory, but I will say that from my experience, that Geil memory works as advertised. I have the PC2700 Ultra and am running it at 6-2-2-1T with no problem. My Bios on a Soyo KT333 Ultra Platinum doesn't have a setting to allow you to go to 5-2-2-1T which is what it was rated at. I have run it overclocked somewhat before, but the lack of a PCI divider on my MB keeps me from wanting to raise the FSB.
