you have got to be kidding.

I could build two computers for that price. Looks like upgrades will be difficult also...

Kinda cool looking though...

Look what the imac has done to all the pc manufacturers....:)

it's a warm deal. the lcd alone costs around $800 if bought separately. $700 for the rest of the system isnt too bad.

"I've been waiting for this to come out"

Then your wait was over when this model was released last year

Looks liek the LCD screen is built into the system. Mine as well just go out and spend $1500 on a laptop. Could probably get similar specs, but you can lug it around :)

Personally, i don't rate prices per item. ie: You can buy a 15" TFT for like $800, but that's segregated from the system, as opposed to this system which has a built in TFT screen.

Sorry, I worded it wrong when I said I was "waiting for it to come out".

Wow, what a tough crowd! This is my first visit and post. I guess it's easy to be critical when all you do is complain about other people's posts. Get a life, you monkeys.

p.s. Mint Boy - I spoke with NEC, it's not discontinued - they're only having Onvia sell it dummy.

Last I heard NEC had pulled back to Canada and Europe.

Warranty service will be a pain. Mom and pops pretty much pulled out of PB\NEC service. Best buy cant do FW service unless it was purchased from them. Allorica is the vendor that picked up PB/NEC warranty jobs and you have to ship to them.

Check the thing out before you buy. A ton of CompUSA?s still have one demo model/refurb in the "corner of shame"

I just hope word of an American comeback by NEC (Shudder)is untrue

Well, here's my system:

Pentium III 600 Mhz, 20 Gig HD, 128 Megs of RAM, DVD Drive, 8 Meg AGP Nvidia TNT2 Card, Crystal Sound Chipset, 17" Monitor.

Computer: $541
Monitor: $204

$733

Considering my system is fully expandable and costs half as much... well, I think the better choice is clear. Also, TFT Screens don't support "multi-resolution," so games played at 640x480 will take up on the center portion of the screen. Anti-Aliasing will help fill the screen, but it actually makes the picture look worse.

But DAMN, does look cool. It reminds me of the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh. If I had the extra money, I'd buy it! $1,000 off is a good deal I suppose.

Am I talking out of both sides of my mouth or what?

Don't get your panties tied up in a bunch, but look here:

http://www.mypc21.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=134&step=4
$1299 plus $43 shipping.

Your find was not bad, but is surely was not great. Take it from a "senior" deal finder - when there is some big shop with a score of recently discontinued systems, someone else will have them for less.

Holycrap!

GREAT find, Holycrap!!!!!!!

Note that it's only $20 more for OVERNIGHT shipping!

On the extremely negative side, I was just reading a review of this unit and was reminded that "NEC" is "Packard Bell." Or as the review referred to it, the "NEC Packard Bell Z1."

Packard Hell, anyone?
