Nice deal, but unless you REALLY need more than 1 drive at the moment (or very soon), I wouldn't "stock up" cause a hard drive is the type of product which just keeps getting cheaper and better over time. Some products can fluctuate depending on the product cycle. IMO.

How does the Maxtor compare to the Seagate 7200.10 series? (And do ATers trust maxtor more now that they've been owned by Seagate for a while...?)

I dont know how they compare to Seagate

But I own that 7H500F0 model and 2 other Maxtors from 1999 and 2003.

All 3 are running fine....I havent had any issues with any of them.

BTW thanks OP for the link...I will probably buy one more of the maxline.

According ot Directron's site, both of these drives only have a 1yr warrenty. Where are you getting the 5yr & 3yr from? I remember once buying an OEM Seagate assuming it had a 5yr warranty only to later find out it was only 15 days. Luckily the drive is still going strong 2 years later.

All Maxline drives have a 5-year warranty. I picked up a couple at my local Fry's (they're going back now, since these are cheaper) - the shelf tag said 1 year, but they show up as 5 years online.

I own this drive and so far so good. I've bought from Directron before and they're Ok except you can't email them directly if you have a problem. You have to post in their stupid forums. They have a lot to learn about customer service.
