600 Gig for $120 .... not bad even if it is PATA

5 Gigs per $1
or
$0.20 per Gig

Either way you look at it ... a pretty nice deal.

I was gonna post this around 9am this morning, but they were already sold out. Limited to quantities on hand for today only, no backorders.

OK, mine went to back-order when the order processed.
Does this mean they will fulfill it, or will it get canceled?

I am not sure if people realize that these new Maxtor drives now carry a 3 year warranty. I just picked up a couple of these drives at Fry's (same SKU number 4987821) and the drive box and the sales receipt have 3 year warranty written on it.

Nice!! I didn't realize that until you mentioned it. I got two at Fry's today. Got there around 8:15am, after CC and BB, and was suprised there were still a lot of stuff available.

Looking at the side label right now:
Maxtor DiamondMax 21, 3-Yr.Limited Warranty. S/N 5QF1xxxx. 300GB + 20GB bonus.

Nice Seagate pushing Maxtor back to a more nomal 3 Year Warranty. But this is essentially a Seagate HD. Even the serial number is in Seagate format.

just added this to my growing list of external hard drives. I actually bought a 120 gb WD PASSPORT mini external HD so i tried canceling this but it already shipped. Oh well, can never have enough hard drive space.

that's pretty risky! dont you think? I hope you don't have critical files there.

i'm not against any particular brands as I have experienced failures with all, but for older hdd's I would definitely do RAID1 or RAID5.

Does the retail sata version have a power adapter ? Or is it the same connection as a pata drive?
