Thanks! Great keyboard and mouse! I have been looking to get another at a reasonable price. Now if I could only find another cheap MX700.

I'm going to ask the requisite "for those of you who already have this set, what kind of batteries do you use? how long do they last given how much usage per day? what kind of batteries do you recommend?" questions...

Does anyone know the range of this?

I'm wondering how well it will work with my computer entertainment center.

I just got this from Dell and it's taking me some time to get used to in in BF1942. I'm hoping that it's just a matter of
time before I figure it out 100%.

BTW, this is my first optical mouse, so that may also have something to do with it...

I use a netgear mr814 wireless router and a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Pro right next to each other and have had no problems.

Wow nice deal too bad I already have one :(

Anyway to answer some questions here, I get a range of about 25' and I can literally go outside of my house and type on the keyboard while it still shows up on the screen. I never used the MX700 but this optical is quite good for gaming with its 4 buttons/wheel and I play mohaa a couple of hours a night. It did take me a little while to get used to the optical after having used a mechanical mouse previously as far as gaming goes. Only thing I don't like about it is the receiver is pretty sensitive, you really need to keep it away from the other computer equipment or it doesn't pick up the signal 100%. And as far as batteries go I made the switch to NiMH batteries, the ones in the keyboard last for months before needing a recharge and the mouse lasts about 2 weeks (maybe a few days more) before needing a recharge. That is with around 8 hrs a day usage. The mouse batteries always seem to die at the wrong time, right in the middle of battle hehe.

too bad logitech doesn't sell the keyboard and mouse separately.

i have this set as well as the mx700. the keyboard is great. love the extra multimedia controls and shortcuts. the batteries last forever. i've had it for almost a year and it says the batteries are still going strong!!

the cordless mouseman that comes with it is not so good. Kind of jumpy. battery life was never that good. and reception with the receiver seemed to pop back in and out a lot. i preferred using the microsoft intellimouse explorer (corded) to it because the motion just seemed a lot more natural. after the first 4 weeks of owning the combo, i was kind of forced to use my microsoft mouse because the logitech one died. i never quite figured out what was wrong with it.

since then i've gotten the mx700. it's awesome. can't even tell it's cordless! the motion is pretty much indistinguishable from the intellimouse, and the rechargeable batteries make it so much better!

so if you can, i'd use the mx700 in place of the cordless mouseman, even though it's kind of a waste.

Word of caution....

Wireless keyboards (RF, not IR or Bluetooth type) are not very secure. I believe this Logitech has either 8, or 12 channels....what does this mean? If someone plugs in a reciever near you, and hooks it to a computer, select your channel, they see everything you type...including passwords.

True this is VERY unlikely, but in a dorm, office, apartment environment such things DO happen. I read recently an article regarding wireless keyboards and it had confirmed reports of signals beyond 30ft being picked up.

My $.02 of caution.

that's why mouseware can make the transmit 'secure', i can't verify if it works, but i know that the option is there, and i've used it before
