I found a place that is selling their 400watt powersupply for $21.99 w/ freeshipping. I did some research on the brand "powmax" and found out that Leadman makes them- so the quality is pretty good. AMD approved manufacturer (powmax is a product of "Leadman") They also sell in bulk of 10's for these powersupply for $199.99 shipped ($2 dollar saving : )- so if any one where to buy it- i would like 4 of them for $80shipped. Here's the site that is selling them, it says that they're "back in stock" :buypcdirect.com
 
Good discussion in this Thread Used to be a hotter deal at 16.99 shipped. No 3.3v+5v TCO given & very light weight (under 3 pounds) according to this Link (fixed link). Name brand & "Certified by UL, CB, CE, TUV, and FCC".

From this review of over 21 power supplies, the Powmax/Leadman did not fair well compared to other power supplies.

The Leadman gets a review of adequate, which isn't bad but it isn't good either ... Adequate is the lowest rating in the review except for defective.
 
I used one of those Powermax 400W PSU with Athlon XP2000, Gigabyte 7VRXP mobo, 512MB of ram, and it crashs.....I had to reinstalled windows.....changed to L&L 350W, it works fine now.....just my $0.02
 
For those that are looking for a reliable power supply and have read Tom's Hardware reccomended power supplies review are likely searching for the Fortron/Verax FSP or Herolchi HEC power supplies. As the directron source mentioned in the above posts us currently out of FSP300-60ATV, I thought I'd mention that you can get one at NewEgg for a very reasonable $27 plus $6 FedEx shipping. According to the reviews this is one of the best and cheapest power supplies available. I just ordered mine 🙂
 
The power supply is one of the things you absolutly do not want to be cheap with when building a PC. Take money from your video card budget if you have to.

why? I use a 320w turbolink PS that I bought for $5 and this thing has served my components well for over a year now... do PS break down often? or are you just speaking from personal experience?
 
If you leave your system on 24/7, you want the peace of mind of a reliable PSU.
If you want system stability, you need a PSU that can supply the correct voltages under stress (esp. if you have lots of components or if you overclock).
If you want a quiet system you need a quiet PSU.
If you're on a budget, you want an inexpensive PSU.

I'm not advocating any company here, but what I'm trying to say is that you need to find something that suits your needs. So, just as you did your research and chose one mobo over another, the same applies to PSU's.
 
Did anyone buy and install this Powmax 400 watter?

Is it as noisy as the link above to Tom's Hardware indicates?

If you bought from buypcdirect.com, how were they? They only have one review at reseller ratings.
 
I absolutely hate mine. It doesn't supply enough voltage to my 3.3v rail. It gives me errors and randomly crashes. I am stuck with it until I can afford a new PSU. I would look elsewhere for a better PSU.
