This week's Best Buy circular has the KByte 512MB DDR memory module for $79.99 AR. In looking through the various packages in-store, at least one package contained a double-sided DIMM with Micron chips that had the following markings:

Chip markings
224 2-2
MT 46V32M8
TG -75 B

Because the screen formatting doesn't show this well , here are the chip markings, separated "left-side" / "right-side":

left side of the chip
224
MT
TG

right side of the chip
2-2
46V32M8
-75 B

There's no question they're Micron chips - the question is on the quality (ie. speed/overclockability) of the -75B chips in DDR applications....

I'm out of town right now, so I don't have access to my links on RAM chips (hence "possible" Hot Deal)

Price is $159.99 - $40.00 instant rebate - $40.00 mail-in rebate.

Neither the item nor rebate are (currently) available on BB website (update - both are available, read below).

The ram is listed in the middle of the page on Page 22 of the circular....

PLEASE report on the quality of these Micron chips or any particular PCB markings to look for, so I can update (or bury) this post ! ! ! !

*** EDIT *** - chip markings *are* 46V32M8 - not 46V32MB as previously reported. Initial message edited.

*** EDIT *** - the KByte ram *IS* available online - as is the rebate. If the following links don't work, search Best Buy's website for Reptron....

Here are direct links to the memory and rebate:

I picked up a stick at BB this morning and it had elixir chips on it.

N2DS25680AT-75B

I tried it out and it would do 166MHz @ 2.5 for a few hours, then bonked out and gave errors after a few hours. It's going back tomorrow.

I'm not home (out of town currently) so I dont have access to my "Favorites" listing of memory reviews (ie. chip markings). I was hoping someone else would recognize the Micron chips and be able to comment on their quality when used in DDR modules - or to whether there were specific markings on the PCB to look for. Being that they're probably 7.5ns chips (-75B), it's my guess this is PC2100 that's overclockable to PC2700 CL3 - possibly CL2.5,... maybe ....

Hey NFS4 - "where" does the rebate go to - is it to Best Buy's rebate center in Calais Maine?

Scored on 1 module of 512MB DDR memory with Micron chip with the followings:

Chip markings
224 2-2
MT 46V32MB
TG -75B

Because the screen formatting doesn't show this well , here are the chip markings, separated "left-side" / "right-side":

left side of the chip
224
MT
TG

right side of the chip
2-2
46V32MB
-75B

However, i had to go to three local Besy Buy to find it. All of them have either Elixir chips or another chip ((forgot name) or another (unknown name) chips.

I got the ram at the San Carlos store, San Francisco and East Palo Alto did not have it.

This is the closest part I can find on Micron's website. Link

Also, I think you made a mistake on the part number. You typed MT4V32MB, but I think the chip probably has MT4V32M8. Note the last character is a numeral "8" as opposed to the letter "B".

In any case, I don't see any speed grade of "-75B". I only see "-75" and "-8"...wonder what the "B" means??

The chip markings were not the easiest to read - in addition to being in the standard plastic retail packaging, the retail package was housed inside of one of those large, hard plastic cases (like what some retailers place CDs in), making it difficult to read the numbers.

I seem to remember Micron labeling some of their SODIMM ram modules in the past with "xx A", "xx B" ratings, where the "xx" represented the speed rating (in ns; ie. "7" for 7 ns, "75" for 7.5 ns, "8" for 8 ns) and the "A" / "B" the quality of the silicon (ie. "A" rated for PC133, "B" for PC66/PC100; or it may have relate to whether the ram is rated as CL2, CL2.5, or CL3 at it's rated speed of PC100, PC133, PC2100, PC2700 - but this is from memory). I'll have to look at the Micron ram in my laptop later, since the dimms are labeled in a very similar manner (128MB modules). It is possible that part of the chip was labeled "MT 16V32MB" or "MT 16V32M8", since 16 x 32MB chips = 512MB. But that first number sure looked like a "4" through all that plastic....

edit - subflava was correct, the "B" is actually an "8" and I have edited the original message to that effect.

To make it easier for those who are seeking the Micron-chipped 512MB DDR memory, look for 4 plus gap plus 4 chips on each side of the module. If you come across one that looks like this, then proceed on to seeing/reading the specs if its a Micron-chipped memory.

I have a 512MB DDR (Crucial) sitting side-by-side with the best Best Buy (K-Byte) Micron-chipped module. By looking at them, they are identical.

vfdfs2 - the DIMM I looked at yesterday had 16 chips - full bank on each side (4-gap-4). Are the chip markings on your stick identical to those I posted????

Chip markings
224 2-2
MT 46V32M8
TG -75 B

And the $10,000 question is - what speed was the Crucial module rated at????

PC2100 or PC2700 ?

edit - edited to reflect correct chip markings - 46V32M8 versus 46V32MB as originally posted....

Here is a link to help decode the Micron chip markings:

http://download.micron.com/pdf/numbering/numdram.pdf

left side of the chip
224
MT
TG

right side of the chip
2-2
46V32MB
-75B

From what I can tell, the -75B designation shows the chips to run at a data rate of 266 MT/s (DDR266) PC2100 - which is the advertised rating for the chips. I can't find -75B, but there is a -75, a -75Z and a -75E -- all at PC2100.

If you happen to find a -6G, -6T, or a -6 you are in luck --- that is the designation for DDR333 (PC2700)
A -55 or -5 puts you into DDR400...
:D

Sorry for the delay response, K-squared. I have an exam today, needed to study, couldnt go online.

Anyway, from the sound of that, and the specs you given, i say 99.9% that is a Micron-chipped memory module. I recalled if a chip have the "MT" marking, it is a Micron chipped RAM.

If i am wrong, someone please correct me.

The Crucial Memory (division of Micron), 512MB DDR i have is rated PC2100.

My signature (bottom of each message) tells all.

B0 by Samsung is 133B in other word PC133CL2.5. So it's PC2100(DDR266).
