Been reading all this bad news about the IBM hd's that overheat and die, lucky me I have two of the 60GXP models and need something to cool them down. They get so hot, i burn my hand just touching them after being on a 4-5 hours.

My hard drives are internal, is there any way to cool them without buying those 5 1/4" cool-drive bays, since I perfer leaving the drives internal and not using a external bay.

Any recommendations would be great short of getting a bigger case :)

Also, do maxtor hard drives get as hot after being on so long, just seems to me my drives are gonna meltdown.\

try to get all your cables organized as neatly as possible. you could then get one or two case fans (depending on your case) and get them to circulate the air for you. if you have all the cables bunched together, the air won't get through as easily. hope this helps.

Maxtor drives do run cooler, although still rather warm, than the IBM's I've had experience with.

A number of computer companies are selling round IDE cables. Because they are not wide they restrict air flow much less. They would definily help if you are trying to get better air cooling to your HDs in their current location.
