Nice camera for the money, but ZDNet reported that the images were a bit difficult to retrieve, and it comes with only a 4 meg compact flash card.

I've owned this camera for a couple of years. I do agree that serial port retieval sucks. I got around it by getting a usb compact flash reader. Copies the contents of my 15mb flash card in seconds. It's a decent camera but it's only 1 megapixel and it's fixed focus. At $139 though it's an excellent deal!

my 2cents: I agree, at either price a 1megapixel cam w/lcd and flash card [which opens so many options]. Essentially fixed focus for most apps means one crops through the viewfinder. 1megapixel is probably near the size of a high-end camera's "medium" setting, which is alot. Kodak name means solid design overall. Definitely capable of more than adequate auction pics.

On that same page, they also have the DC120 and DC210. They seem to be older models, but how do they compare (at $159) to the 200 (at $139)?

I just went to the consumerdepot.com page linkified above and saw the DC200, DC210, and DC120 cameras. So then I went to Kodak's website to get some specs. The bottom line is, the DC200 if fixed-focal distance, and the DC210 has a 2x zoom and macro (close-up) capability. The 120 is a lower grade model from what I can tell from the specs.

There are also "plus" models of both the 200 and 210, with "faster shutter response time, 20% improved battery life, date stamp, exposure lock" and a few other features. The beauty part is, Kodak has firmware upgrades for the 200 -> 200 plus, and 210 -> 210 plus for free on its website.

Consumerdepot has 131 DC200's in stock. I just bought their penultimate DC210 because the zoom/macro were worth the extra $20 to me. So if you want a 210, better hurry cause they only have one left now. Be aware that the 210's are "open box" items so it's sort of taking a chance. But the guy I just spoke to when I ordered it said they're either display items or nondefective returns and everything is complete, so I figured I'd take the chance. Also be aware that consumerdepot has a mediocre record on resellerratings.com, mostly with respect to returns (they don't give refunds, only exchanges or credits). So if I turn out to be sorry I bought from them, I'll post a note here and let you all know.

Spoke too soon again -- they called back within 2 hours and said both of the 2 they had left were "camera only" i.e., no box, no manual, no accessories, nuthin.'

Damn, first Onvia screws me this morning and then consumerdepot this afternoon. I just might have to go postal soon. :disgust:

Hey people, this camera has been discontinued for some time now. Bought a DC210 over a year ago at half the price you're talking about. If you buy this camera, you had better invest in the $30 compact flash reader b/c it's serial. On top of that, a truck load of batteries b/c it chews them up. You'd be better off spending the extra money and getting a DC240 or above, which has USB capability and comes with rechargable batteries.

The DC210 looked like it was "open box". That model just adds a 2x zoom. The reviews I've been reading of this camera say the pictures are excellent quality and you can print out up to a 5x7 picture without any loss of quality. Also, there's a firmware upgrade available on Kodak's web site that upgrades this to the "Plus" model, which adds some features, fixes some bugs, and increases the battery life by 20%. Not bad!
