Samsung has been desperately trying to get back into the high end plasma and tv market. They went to TI and licensed the entire design of TI's DLP chipset tv, called mustang, anpretty built it spec by spec for production supposedly. TI engineers claim its by far the best DLP set implementation because mfg's usually "play with designs", and samsung didnt since they were in a hurry to get to market. DLP is NOT plasma or LCD but a different technology, similar in some ways more to LCD I think than to plasma.

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/bsless/mhlm437w.html 43 inch 2699$ shipped if ordered by 8/15

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/bsless/mhlm507w.html 50 inch 3199$ shipped if ordered by 8/15

**** Datavision has the 50 inch on pre-order for 4499$ as of today 08/05.

I did some quick checking these sets are MUCH more on every other website I found. This merchant is making a GROUP buy.

Here is a link to a 10,000$ dollar Hitachi for another model to read about I grabbed at random.

Alot of us have been waiting for HDTV deals. THIS new technology has been around but not out in production until just recently much,
DLP means Picture Digital Light Processing Technology and previously has only been available on 10,000$-16,000$ units. Texas Instruments supposedly makes the best chipset in production right now though I have NO way to verify that.

These sets are sharper than LCD and only a very a few people say they arent sharper than every high end projection they have seen. A few people claim the high end pioneer Elite line of projection Tv's are as good or better.

Over on the AVS forum there are over 35 pages of posts about just these 2 sets, they have ALOT of peopel excited.

Best buy and HI-FI buys are clearing out their currents stocks for more plasme and DLP sets according to different net articles I have seen.

For those of you who want a really high quality set for not much more , these are VERY much worth checking out, they are that deep compared to projection sets either, so not as big.

Personally I think 2699$ for a 43 inch DLP is incredible, but time eventually brings the price down on everything. Just look at plasma's this year compard to 2 years ago.

I DON'T think they are better than plasma's though some argue they are just as good, I rank them between LCD's, maybe TOP end direct view sets, and probably right below or next to plasma's. I may be wrong on that, but there just arent enough people out there saying they prefer them over plasma so I play it safe rather then mislead a fellow AandTech member.

My guess is DLP will be a huge part of the market very shortly.

These sets are just shipping now after a long time of waiting. :D

Forum rules say that
No group buys. Sorry, but these deals have been costly to our members from both honest mistakes and outright fraud.

Dont know if that means you cant post about them, or offer them....but either way...

Group Buys are not allowed, which refers to a member (or members) offering to organize a group purchase to get a special price on an item. This does not seem to be a Group Buy by that definition.

The Group Buys are not allowed because they involve one individual paying on the group's behalf, which usually involves collecting a large amount of money from the individuals and then making a major purchase. This inevitably leads to a very high risk and the potential for mass confusion and possbily fraud.

As long as this company is offering a stated item at a stated price, and it does not involve collecting all of the moneys before placing a group order, then this does not seem to violate our policies.

Hope this helps.

I am in the market for a big screen TV and have been reading the AVS forums extensively. I am very curious to check these DLP TV's out, but nobody in my area carries them yet. I think I will be waiting for the prices to drop after the first few models hit the stores and I can actually see one.

Have you or anyone seen these sets yet. I am VERY curious, plasma near performance for 1/2 the price sounds great. I just hate to order one sight unseen.

I have seen one, TI demonstrated them to me and my team (we develop DLP projectors). They look awesome, and will most definitely become a major player in the HDTV market.

I purchased a DLP projector (NEC LT75Z).

The contrast ratio is high (800:1) vs and LCD (200:1). DLPs seem to be the recommmended choice for home theater for a variety of reasons. I don't know them all, just knew they were better.

There is a "rainbow" effect that some people experience with DLPs. It causes headaches for some people. I notice them occasionally, but haven't had a headache from watching a movie or anything. It's mostly when I'm moving around and looking at the screen as opposed to just sitting down and watching. I don't know if this is an issue with rear projection sets.

I think CRTs are the best all around. They have unbelievable hour capabilities, don't have persistence problems ("smear"), and more. DLPs and LCDs both have persistence problems which means the pixel turns on quick, but has a curve when you turn it off. That means it stays on a little too long and you can see a ghosting effect. With the DLP I only notice it with my very quick menus on my Tivo.

I would be concerned about lamp life. Make sure you know what sort of hours the lamp is rated at. On a projector, it's not really a big deal to change a lamp because they're more accessible, but on a rear projection I don't know how much you want to have to take it apart to do a change. I'm guessing that inside a big cabinet, you have more cooling options then the super small projectors, and the lamp life would be longer.

Obviously I'm just touching on a couple things. I am not an expert. AVSforums should answer all your questions.

I agree about the rainbows. Is this a 3 DLP or just one. If it is a 3 DLP, then that´s a lava hot buy. If not, I´d make sure I saw one before buying because of the rainbows. Some people are more/less sensitive to it. When I first got mine, it drove me nuts. I´ve gotten used to it and also have learned to keep my eyes from moving. It lessens the effects. When I have people over for movies, about half have serious problems with it. So most of the time I have to use my semi small 36¨ tube.
