Hot, get PAID to beta xbox games (austin/chicago)

I dunno about you, but this is one of the first times I've seen a company that wants to pay people to beta test. Normally everyone does it for free 🙂 It's only in Austin TX and Chicago IL. Microsoft is paying people who qualify to test "future Microsoft" xbox games (i.e. beta or market test). Starts April 22 Linkie:
http://www.xbox.com/news/0203/gamesfeedback.htm
There's a couple phone numbers to call, depending on where you live. Unfortunately I don't live in either of those locations, but good luck if you do. If anyone finds out details, feel free to post, i.e. what kinda pay, mileage or not, etc. I imagine it's probably useless to call if you live anywhere else and might discourage MS from doing any more of this in the future, so please only call if you live in those two locations, and if it goes good, who knows, they might even expand it.

BTW, found this link on hardocp front page, and thought that it sounded like a hot deal, did a search for xbox and didn't see anything similar.

As far as I can tell, there's no need to sign up to the xbox site to get into this, I think the sign up button on the page is just for signing up to the xbox site/mailing list/xbox forums in general.

I figured I might as well post the message here, I removed the phone numbers, but they are on the link above, and I am telling my friends 🙂 :

Goddamn you Chicago boys and Austin dudes suck! I got paid 20 bucks to test cherry coke, but i'd rather take 5 bucks and test games all day. 🙁 bastidges

<< I guess you have to actually own an X-box to qualify? >>

I doubt it. What, you think they will be giving you copies of the game? 🙂 I dunno, I could be wrong, but the "evening meetings" sounds to me like you will drive down a couple few nights a week to play a couple hours at a time. Giving you the copy introduces way to many problems for a beta program, much simpler to set it up down there, easier for them to control, easier to enforce an NDA, easier to prevent you from having people who aren't in the program (like friends) play it, easier to keep the beta fully updated with patches etc. Plus, if its down there they know how many hours they have to pay you for. Anyway, if someone in the austin or chicago area wants to post more details feel free.

I just called.

The lady said to call back tonight after 7 because she doesn't know anything about it, but that its starting tonight so call then and someone should be able to give me info...

The webpage said it wasn't starting until the 22nd tho....hmm

They probably didn't know what they were talking about. Haven't you ever gotten the runaround from someone who didn't know what was going on and they just didn't want to deal with it? 🙂 Try doing what that other guy said try after 7pm or call some other time, get someone who knows what they are talking about. Besides, I don't think this is something that will "end" unless they aren't satisfied with the people they get. I imagine if they have successfull testing experiances, they will continue to test new games on people, perhaps they will have it go on one month, wait another month and start again or something. I dunno, I'm just speculating. So, any other stories about what happened when you guys called?

I called earlier and the lady said she didn't know, and to call back later. So I called back, and they took my number, and called me back about an hour later for an interview.

It seems to just be a short term thing, and only pays $60, so I think its only for a couple of nights.

They asked me some questions, and then said that I don't qualify.

Questions asked were (but not limited to) (hopefully your answers are different than mine, so you qualify)

My age? 21
My employment status? (full time, part time, or full time student) student
What consoles I own? xbox, snes
How many hours a week I play on them? 20
How likely am I to buy the following in the next 12 months: (definately, probably, might, probably not, definately not)
Playstation 2? might
Gamecube? probably not

the demographic stuff you can do much about, but I'm guessing they would probably want you to be in the "probably" buying on the playstation and gamecube...dunno.

Hey all

Well, I'm near Chicago....think they want people that own XBoxes or not? I don't own one, but I could borrow my buddy's so I'm not lying when I say I have one! 😉

I don't know, and they aren't flexible at all so if you explained your situation, they probably wouldn't help you any. When she asked how many hours a week I played, I said "about 15 to 20" and she said "can I get an exact number please" obviously they're just reading off a screen and typing in the numbers.

I'd say go ahead and say you have the xbox, and say that you will probably buy a PS2 or gamecube 😉
