Compgeeks has the Genica 'Roopaq' MP3 player for $122 - it runs on a laptop HD. I picked one of these up a few months ago when it was $189 (plus HD), and I'm pleased with mine. It's the same as the SSI-America 'Neo 25' player. You can find more info on the Neo 25 in the discussion boards at www2.funmp3players.com (no affiliation - just a place for reference).

Here's the link for compgeeks:

Genica Roopaq for $122

It's the 'Geek Special', so I don't think the extra 10% off coupon will work.

I put a 18-gig 12.5mm HD in mind and it works fine. Best bet would be to get a IDE adaptor kit for your laptop HD to load the MP3's on it - several gig of mp3's transferred via USB sucks.

Sounds interesting... How is the audio quality? I'm going to go check out the site above but the device looks pretty nifty. Any complaints?

Hrm... This doesn't look the same as the Neo SSI player on the front of the funmp3players.com site. Is it the same internally but different externally or is there no picture of the equivalent Neo player on the funmp3players site?

Nah - it's not a 3.5" floppy - it uses a 2.5" laptop hard drive.

Sorry if I wasn't clear on what it's the same as - it's the same as the SSI America 'Neo 25', which was discontinued in favor of their 'Neo Jukebox', which is what you see on their website now.

Check out the discussion forums at www.funmp3players.com if you want more info. Like I said - I've got one, and it works well. I just leave mine plugged in at work all the time, and use it like one huge cd changer there. Battery life is probably pretty terrible, but you can leave it plugged in all the time without any problems if you are near an outlet...

Only real complaints I have are that it's a bit bulky (still smaller than the Creative Nomad), and that USB is just too slow to transfer multiple gigs of MP3's - you almost NEED a 2.5" laptop HD adaptor so that you can hook the drive up to your home PC temporarily to copy the MP3's via IDE... Overall, a good deal considering you can put together a 20 or 30 gig portable MP3 player for just a bit more than a new 128-meg Intel or Nomad II portable... JMHO of course.

It's not a bad unit, I have a 20 gig drive in one (got the neo, but the plug the adaptor plugs into broke off, so they sent my a roopaq, and now that plug just went (you just have to be really careful when you plug it in (don't drop it!)))
