Hot! eCost has the GEM GM-170B 17in LCD Flat-Panel Display for a super low price of $189 after $80 rebate. No shipping but $6 handling fee. 204 in stock now. Let's see how long it will last.

Ergonomically designed for the office user in mind, its 300:1 contrast ration and 1280 x 1024 max resolution brings you superior images and crisp text with 300:1 Contrast Ratio.

I bought 2 - 18" GEM LCD's for work less than 2 years ago. Both of them are smeared with dead pixels. Probably 200-300 of them. Sorry but I wouldn't buy a GEM again for even 100.00.

Good deal for the adventursome though...personally I jumped on the 19" flat CRT a while back from odepot...lovin it.

My only one RMA experience with them was great!

My GEM 1920B has been great. I had one dead pixel and got it replaced by Scanport right away. It has been over a year and my new unit works great and no dead pixels so far.

Look at the bottom, it look like there are speakers in them but actually those are fate! Anyone know what is it?

300:1 contrast ratio is trash. It consumes significantly more power than other LCDs and I'm sure it's a 25ms or worse panel.

Buy.com has the Samsung 710N-2 for $320 shipped. 12ms response time, 35w consumption, and a 600:1 contrast ratio.

I'm pretty sure there are actual speakers in there. Not good speakers, but speakers nonetheless. I bought one of these from Frys a few months ago and took it back because I couldn't get it adjusted properly. Everything appeared greyish. Since then I've bought a Hyundai L70S and a NEC 1712. They were both more expensive than the Gem, but I'm very happy with both of those displays. Good luck.

wow...this is hot man🙂...and I was trying to sell my 17"LCD🙂!!!!

EDIT: Don't know about quality^^^^ But it is a good price🙂

should be fine for office stuff. I don't understand why the hardcore gamers denegrate a product that was meant for the low end. It almost like giving a poor rating to a $299 eMachine in a gaming magazine. Why even bother?

Why not the 19 inch Planar for 359.99 from Buy.com

I'd heard that a couple of LCD plants in Korea and Indonesia are just about to come online and the next generation of plasma's around the corner - that current LCDs (TV screens) will drop like a stone in the next 4-6 months.

Just trying to substantiate that rumor. My TV is dying, and wondering if it would be worth it to hang in there.

Thanks
