They told me that I wasn't eligable for the free phone--even though I just renewed for a year--because I'm on the 'old network'. Supposedly this explains why my plan isn't listed on the site, because its the old plan on the old network. This smells greatly of BS. Can anyone confirm this or suggest an alternative to spending an extra 10-20 a month to get a new phone?

Why does it smell of BS? AT&T used to use TDMA, whereas they (and Cingular, no doubt) now use GSM. I don't think they've been advertising their old network for a while, so it's not a stretch to think they don't have any new TDMA phones for sale.

You might consider switching your phone over to their Free 2 Go plan, though, if you don't use the phone a lot. It's cheaper if you use it sparingly, mainly b/c you avoid the crazy 20% cell phone tax.

Yeah, you're right Pete. I haven't been keeping up with the technology, so I wasn't even aware they had switched over. It initally sounded like I was just getting the brush off. I'm considering going with T-Mobile, as the rollover minutes would benefit me more than anything; I use the phone some months more than others. My only caveat is that their coverage doesn't look so great.

EDIT: Dur, that's Cingular. Guess I'll look into the pay as you go plans :/

Is this deal dead, or do you just check every few days to see they have new deals?

I just renewed my contract and got the crappy LG4015, can I call back and upgrade my phone once there's something available that I like?
