Hot features of Blue are preserved with Optima Platinum

I have heard about the recent junk from AMEX terminating Best Value Guarantee program fot their Blue card. As a proud owner of one and enjoying the pricematching ability of this card I did not want it to end. Calling Customer Service revealed the fact that BLUE is actually one of the Optima line of their cards and one can effortlessly switch BLUE to a Optima Platinum for example. This will not only preserve your BVG, but also any "points" accumulated with Blue as well as the Buyer Assurance program which adds up to 1 extra year of warranty on any product you buy entirely with your AMEX card.

CSR confirmed all of my benefits will be the same with Optima Platinum as they were with Blue. All you need is to ask. The swithover takes place at the end of your billing cycle and no credit history check will be done.😎

FYI - While the BVG program will still be available with other AMEX card products, the BVG program TOS is changing drastically for those cards still covered. Before you go and spend $75-$250 for the annual fees for one of their card products that will still offer the BVG benefit, you might want to get a copy of the new TOS to see if it is even wourth your while. Also, despite what some frontline AMEX CSRs may tell you, there is still no official decision concerning if any Optima cards will continue to offer BVG as a card benefit beyond 5/31 so switching to Optima platnium if you qualify may just give you an extra 30 days of BVG.

The Optima Platinum is the only Amex card I have ever had, and when I did my BVG last week, they assured me that there were no plans to end this benefit.🙂

If it is that easy to switch over, I guess I will soon be having a lot of company (Fellow Optima Platinum cardholders)😉😀

I don't know why people havent posted this, but the Amex Starwood Platinum has the BVG and is free for the first year. It is the card I have been using instead of the BLUE because of its benefits. The bonus's can convert into airline miles, so I use it for all of my electronics purchases. After the first year, there is an annual fee of $30.

When I talked to the CSR's, they said that the BVG will still be available when the BLUE looses the BVG.

I don't know how hard it is to get the card, but it may be like other platinum cards. I recently had my AMEX stolen - I had no problems having the account closed and the charges taken care of by AMEX. I was impressed.

according to the amex website, the optima platinum card does NOT have the membership rewards program available, so it wouldnt be exactly the same card

can anyone confirm this?

Errr ... considering I was offered 2000 BONUS POINTS & no annual fee to sign up my Optima for membership rewards a few months back ... no I DON'T think I can confirm that 😀

I've had an Optima platinum card for a number of years. I don't think it comes standard with Amex rewards, but they did send me a letter asking me if I'd like to enroll in the program.
I did, and I'm racking up points super fast thanks to this forum! 😀
So, I don't think it's standard, but it can be added on. Why they asked me, I don't know.

Switch over? Well, I asked a CSR and she said that I had to apply for one to determine my credit limit...there was no automatic granting of a new Optima card merely because you have a credit line with the Blue card. So we have to apply for a new one just like everyone else. Too bad too, because I think issuing me a blue card was a fluke...I was a jobless college student (when it first came out, mind you) and now I'm a jobless law student, so I doubt I'll get the Optima Platinum...

I'm guessin' this is an April Fool's Joke, cuz I haven't received anything in the mail re: the end of the BVG program. They're usually required to give 30 days notice of the change in their agreement.

I called the BVG line and they denied that optima platinum is part of the BVG program- sorry 🙁

Where have you been Spinn? It's confirmed on all the major deal sites. Lots of us got the email from Amex stating this... it's no joke. BVG on Blue is no more (soon) .

BTW the BVG Phone number is 800-557-8317. Call them yourself and get the real answers.

I posted the link a couple of days ago that had the link to where it says the optima platinum does have the BVG. Here's the link to the thread. Linky

Hold on a sec... Amex's Cards page says the GOLD card has BVG. But are either the Gold or Optima cards revolving credit, or is it like the original Amex card where you have to pay the entire balance every month? (Blue is a revolving credit card).

Gold has a revolving credit plan (only on some purchases?) it seems to be 14% I just try to keep mine paid off, so I am not 100% sure of the rates.
