OK, I dont know if this is relevant to anyone outside of Texas, Damn Cowboys:disgust:. But at your local Blockbuster Video they sell their DVD's that they use to rent out. Now these are in great shape and usually come with all the inserts. They are also returnable in case they are scratched or whatever. They are great deals!!! I got Green Mile for 10.00!!!! Notice that the regular price was 13.00 and right now they are having a 3 dollar off all pre-viewed videos and dvds!!! Now the prices range from 18..9 for Braveheart to 12.99 for Galaxy Quest! Minus the $3.00 discount and viola sub-$10.00 Dvd in some case. Make great gifts as I bought the Chick Flick "Cider House Rules" 10.00!!! Whoohoo, and my dvd collection has got 26 dvds now.

Hope you can enjoy like me:cool:

Most blockbuster dvd's are scratched up though, right? That's the only reason I never purchased a used dvd...

If you're really anal about how your dvds look cosmetically, then you probably wouldn't want to get these. If all you want is a movie that plays perfectly for a good price, then it's a good deal. If you get one that is defective, they will allow you to take it back and swap it out for another of the same title. The store by my house had quite a few priced pretty low. I picked up 6th Sense, Talented Mr. Ripley, Scream 3, and The World is Not Enough the other day for $30.27 total. They were labeled $9.99 each and $3 off each. Not a bad deal for 4 fairly new releases that play perfectly.

Hellya, I mean I pretty meticulous(spelled right?) about my electronics but liek my girlfriend said, its nice to pay tompay for something that is worth 9.00 anyway, the fat DVD companies make a bundle off of us. And oh man "Green Mile" sounded oh so sweet on my PS2 hooked up to my Dolby Surround Sound!!!
BTW whats better Dolby Digital Surround or Dolby 5.1?? My Processor supprts both, I just dont know which to use...

I've also picked up on some of these deals here at my local Texas Blockbuster, and can honestly say that most used DVDs play well. Most of these come from consumers who sold them to Blockbuster, not from video stores, where people never owned the DVDs they just rented them. When people own something, they tend to take better care of it. Personally I own about 20 DVDs and not one of them has a single scratch on it. Just a matter of liking nice things and having respect for yourself and your hard earned cash.

This is the exact reason I do not recommend buying used cars from Enterprise or Hertz rental places. People rent them and joyride with them and tear them up. If you want a nice DVD at a good price, this is a great special, thanks for pointing it out to others HiveTyrant.

Dolby Surround is

L C R

Sur.

Left Center right and surround channels. There are only 4 channels of audio and they are 'simulated' which means they are only good guesses of where things should be by your decoder. Dolby 5.1 is as follows:

L C (sub) R

LSur. RSur.

You have Left, right, center, subwoofer (this is the .1 in 5.1), left surround, and right surround. These are all 'discrete' audio channels and were originally recorded this way, which means when a decoder decodes the signal it's how the director intended the sounds to appear on the movie itself! This is definitely the format of choice, as it is a 6-channel setup. Some people say only 5 because subwoofer isn't really a channel per se, but it is separated out from the other channels to sound better and louder =)
Hope this helps a little bit.

Hmmm, my Blockbuster doesn't buy used DVDs. Maybe it's a Cdn thing?

Thanks so much!!! Im a pro at computers but a mere amature at Home Theatre. I picked up a system while at Shepard AFB in Wichita Falls Tx for 500.00. No tax and 20% off thanks to my credit card. I love it!! it supports DTS, prologic, dolby Surround and 5.1. And its 600Watts. OK bragging over. These are DVDs that Blockbuster has rented out to its members not DVDs they buy from people. They are used but where solely owned by Blockbuster. They are a great deal and most of them are fairly new releases like Sixth Sense. I picked up "Braveheart" today I cant wait to hear the roar of battle on all 6 of my speakers:cool:

I have a lot of Jewish people in my Blockbuster area. For some reason all the DVDs have scratches on them. Goddammnit!

J/K, the DVDs are usually in very good condition. I used my Blockbuster $50 gift card and picked up 5 DVDs, all 5 were in perfect condition. My only gripe is the stupid Blockbuster stickers that they put on all their DVDs.

I have tried to pull the stickers off. They are on damn tight. They also don't peel off easily. They don't peel off like a banana. Its more like trying to peel a Cucumber without a peeler.

You could try an old trick I learned from selling old Star Wars Figures that were still on the cards. Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels MJ Designs. Buy a can of acetone or googone. Put some on a cottone ball and soak the sticker, it wont hurt the DVD. Wait 1 minute and the adhesive is eaten away. Try it and itll probably work. They dont put stickers on the DVDs here they mark the top with a Blockbuster ID number in Perm Marker, oh well. If worse comes to worse you could put these babies up on wee-bay and make a little profit.....

This deal has been on and off for the last several months.Fantastic deals here. When you go to you local BB,dig around the piles, because I found Tarzan for 9.00 and Stuart Little for the same.My brother just picked up Blair Witch for 4.99.The store he went to had no ceiling on the 3.00 off deal.As an aside ,I spoke to a BB employee and she told me that they are going to be 50/50 DVD:movies by the end of '01 and that the PVD's would be getting to the cheap section much faster. This is such a good deal if you dont want to spend lots of cash and wanted to start a collection.

This is what Ive grabbed for 9.99 or less:
Three Kings
Tarzan
Stuart Little
Double Jeopardy
Arlington Road
Antz
Sixth Sense
Galaxy Quest
End of Days(not even worth the 6.99 I paid for it)

Granted, not Academy Award winners but for less than 100.00 an hot deal indeed!

P.S You get a 30 day return on the dvds,so if they are scratched up bad, return it no questions asked.Or you could do what I do and open it at the register and pick up another one if yours is banged up.One other thing: this sale comes back every 6-8 weeks so keep an eye out and try hopping over to www.dvdtalk.com and check out their dvd bargain forum. They pretty much keep an eye out for the sale.

Peace
