Optorite (Accesstek) DD0203 Dual Format (+/-) DVD Burner with HD Burn for $199 at www.accupc.com. (I repeat this is a dual format for those that are going to list other DVD burner deals here like a Pioneer A05 or something) Was $280 a couple days ago. Much cheaper than the Sony 500A. This drive is a OEM Sanyo with the following features:

BURN-Proof: prevents Buffer Under Run
HD-BURN: record twice the capacity of CD-R media
- 8 MB internal buffer
- Motorized easy touch tray loading
- Firmware upgradeable
- Installation: horizontal and vertical
- 4X Max. DVD+R and -R Write, 2.4X Max. DVD+RW Rewrite, 2X Max.
- DVD-RW Rewrite, and 12X Max. DVD-ROM Reading
- 24X Max. CD-R Write, 10X Max. CD-RW Rewrite and 40X Max. CD-ROM Reading

This drive has a unique feature of Sanyo HD Burn technology, no other drive has it. It let's you burn up to twice as much info on a regular CD-R (similar to Plextors new feature on their Premium line) but this let's you do twice the info 1.4GB on a 700MB CD-R. Another thing is that DVD drives should be able to read these CD-R's with a simple firmware upgrade, I know I read that LiteOn will be supporting HD Burn too.

Wish I could take advantage of this deal, but being here in the Amsterdam (funny thing is that Optorite is opening its European headquarters here in the Netherlands, but I can't find this drive anywhere - the only place that had it listed, doesn't anymore), I can't so I'll pass it on to you... (but really wish I could get my hands on one)

Free shipping for all but tax for CA residents.

Don't know the resellers rating of this place, but they also look to have the best price on the ultimate nForce2 Motherboard. $185 for the Gigabyte 7NNXP.

yeah accupc.com is a legit place. And wow, that is a nice feature bonus for the HD burning. May not need the DVD burning after all.

Maybe I should just get a cheap CDRW that supports HD burning. Anyone agrees?

Seems hot, but I already have a DVD+RW and well I'm satisfied with it so far. Although the features of that burner are very nice.

yeah but i think that most the cdrw that support it for right now are gonna be expensive.. they said the plextor premium drives have this available but last i checked the fastest plextor cdrw costs over 100 retail.. so spend that extra 50-100 bucks and get the dvd burning capable too 🙂 but that is a sweet deal being able to dual burn 🙂 1.4gb of data on one cdr 🙂

Well I've been wanting to get a DVD burner myself but this one has almost no reviews that I can find online. I did notice that for $5 more (+ another $10 for shipping) essencompu.com has the NEC 1300A which is also a dual burner, only a 2mb buffer and no HD burn but there is more info about it. Any thoughts?

I have used OptoRite CDRW drives before. While not as good overall as Liteon, they are more than adequate. I just ordered one of these dual format DVD burners. Be advised, though, I had a LOT of trouble with their web site while trying to place the order. They might have a screwy web server, or it could be the Anandtech effect.

Dumb question:

When you do a CD with HD-burn, can that CD be read on any other cd unit or does it have to be read in the Optorite unit?

good question.

I think ill wait for the next release of this burner so its more reliable... or until i can get this one for around $150

quick question, it was probably already answered though, but that double burning 1.4 Gig on a 700MB disc, is that readable on a regular CD drive? Or can it only be read on that burner? Like if I burn MP3s, will my MP3 player in my car be able to read that double burned CD? Thanks in advance!
