Really? I thought this looked like a pretty good deal. Not for me though, I hate Dell with a passion. I wouldn't buy so much as an IDE cable from them. I had a "falling out" with Dell about 4 years ago.

I just thought someone else might be interested, I know a lot of people watch for deals on the 400SC, and just saw this for the 1600SC.

You must be thinking of the 400SC deals. I have not seen a 1600SC with these specs for $300. The 1600SC is in Dell's value server family but it's designed to be a real server unlike the 400SC (which I have and like :). Nice deal for someone you can use a server with these specs. If you're interested in this you may also want to check out their 700SC.

Linkage to 1600SC

Search the past posts for 1600SC. I got one with a 2ghz chip, 2x73gb seagates and more for ~$400 a year ago, if i remember correctly. i would imagine that they've done similar deals since then as well.

No, these things did not go for $400. I got in on that deal and it cost around $650

This is a not a bad deal, but it's not really very hot either... BTW, these don't sell for $300...

Not true, I got in on that deal and it was a 600SC, not a 1600. The 1600 model was going for $600+

This is a decent deal, screw the haters.

Not so hot compared what you could put together yourself, unlike the 400SC deals where the price is really competitive with any custom config I can come up with.

I don't how folks were getting these so cheap. I've been watching all the low end servers and this seems a pretty good deal for the 1600. Still not like getting a 400sc and just adding scsi. But a good deal if you want the 1600.

LikeLinus appears to be correct, the previous $400 deal was on a 600SC not 1600SC.
