Hot Deals forum - categorized?

à la Slickdeals? Not a bad idea, I like that. Not sure if that can work on Fusetalk, though.

I don't think that's entirely necessary. The Quick Search is more than enough to find what you're looking for.

Sometimes, though, you're not necessarily looking for anything, but you're in the mood to jump on a hot deal that you kinda need, but don't really need. One of the reasons I don't visit Hot Deals often is that it's rather messy (the other reason being I have no money 😱).

- The search doesnt work. It isn't necessary, but it would be very very helpful. Anandtech could benefit by adding category specific ads.

The hot deals forum is HUGE, and full with great deals. However, I often find that a couple decent deals get slipped by because so many other deals are posted. If I am looking for a hard drive, I don't want to see a ton of "free sample XXX" or "magazine sale".

Didnt someone say that the programming forum wasn't going to be broken off?

Actually, they said they would do it. Just not yet.
- I missed that, where did they say that at?

A mod said in another thread I think sometime in June "I am going to keep S/W clean until the programming is spun off from gaming." AFAIK that's the only thing that has been said.

Great Idea!!! But like so many other great ideas the community has had I expect that it will not happen. I don't get this forum sometimes. They say where getting a split programming section (and that took a ton of people practicly yelling for it) that still hasn't happened. The search to my knowledge still isn't fixed. It seams the only things that get done around here are locks and bans. It's like the mods went to mod school on the first day, where all given a ban stick and a lock stick, and then ran away never to return. /rant

We could even break out the free stuff into its own section.

I think that's actually a bad idea. Target for spam, IMO.
- The current forum is just as much of a target at a dedicated free stuff forum. It would be for Hot Deals, that are free. Not just everyday freebies.
