hehe Ross... actually the DOTD was for the 200. I bought the 400 a couple of days ago (only paid about $30 more). I decided it was worth it because the 400 has a bigger LCD screen, color viewfinder, and night vision! After rebate I'll have gotten it for $460 or so. Not bad! Now I just have to use it. I've got firewire on my Inspiron 8000 at work, but I need to get a cheap TI chipset firewire card for my home machine (I know there have been a few in hot deals for $20-$30 or so. I'm going to get tapes at Sam's Club and a longer-life battery from one of the cheap battery places online.

<<I'm addicted to buying crap that I don't need just because it's a bargain not because I need or will use it.

Or are you blinded by this because you're afflicted with the same disease?>>

What disease? I buy stuff I need or want (and would buy anyway). I have saved many hundreds of dollars from Hot Deals. My 2x Acer rewriter went out and I got a 10x HP for $25 after MIR. A free 42 bit scanner when my old one died. A HP C215 digi Camera AND HP 842C printer for $70 after MIR ( I DIDN'T need the printer but sold my HP720C for $35 to get a brand new and minimal upgrade). A UPS for $10 (I live in Cali).

For example - my mother uses Tracfone (because she talks only about 10-15 minutes a month on the cell). I got it free after rebate for her from a Hot Deal in March. She needs airtime - 10 minutes a month for $7.99 keeps service activated. Hot deals (just now) had a $50 off coupon for $100 of Tracfone airtime at Amazon.com. I figure I could keep buying cards at $7.99 a month or buy a years worth at once for nearly half that.

As long as you and I are not burdened by Credit Card debt - it's ok. If you (or I) start to sink into that black debt hole - then some kind of help is advisable.

This is a consumer/captalist society. Nothing wrong with that - BUT buy what you NEED or will (eventually) use.

EDIT: That Gateway Server was an AWESOME deal. But I don't need one, won't likely need one in the near future and just passed it by. So, am I infected. Or is it controlled?

yeah i wanted that gateway server too. But I didn't think it would be worth it to buy it. I already have a system I use and love. When I thought about buyign it, i realized I didn't want any part of it except the case (which I dont need, my current one surfices) and the dual processor supporting motherboard. So perhaps if I se a good deal on a dual p3 motherboard I will buy one.

I was in the same position, it was a great deal, decent case, processor and hard drive but what use would I have for it? None.

Rossman you obviously don't read Maxim. The first rule of the unwritten rules of being a guy is:

"THOU SHALL NOT WATCH CHOCOLAT"

You sir, are obviously a fairy, or so effected by this disease that you are making purchases that go against every fiber in your manhood.

Same thing with me and that server. I'd never have used it.

You know, this economy slump is coming at a time when people are realizing just how bad their CC debt is. Maybe spending is slowing down because of that.

I, have no CC debt. But, I have to be careful. I'll use my Visa for nothing more then gasoline purchases the rest of the summer. I just sold a paintball gun and that will pay for my new PC I just built. It's hard, but I'm avoiding the HD forum of late, especially since I don't really need anything now.

RossMAN, are you really saving money if you're buying something on sale you won't need? Wouldn't you save as much money (or more) by NOT buying those items?

So, RossMAN - did you buy the server? If you didn't you showed self control and common sense.

So far - the last 12 months - I have paid ALL my cc bills each month in full. I only looks like July or August I may carry a balance over and pay one finance charge while waiting for one large rebate.

Nope, if the purchase is $100 or more I usually exercise some common sense (not much though).

It's funny you mention paying off your cc bill in full, I started doing that Feb 2001 and what a feeling! I charge about $300 a month on that for food, fun stuff, DVDs, Hot Deals stuff, you don't have to pay right away since you have that 25 day grace period, I have the CitiBank Dividends Rewards card which has a low rate of 15.4%, no annual fee and pays me back 1% rebate. But the BEST part of all is seeing "finance charge $0.00" that's awesome.

Glad I don't have that many rebates pending, just the $50 Dymo, $10 PNY RAM, $25 Connectix VGS and that's it I think.

I know you don't need another cc but you should check out the CitiBank Dividends Card 1% cash back, 2.9% low introductory APR and no annual fee. Plus you can't beat CitiBank's customer service (ok well maybe you can), and their CitiBankCards.com online access is pretty spiffy also.
