This is just a FYI. There are ton's of hot deals out there, but this one sparked my interest.

Here's a pretty decent deal on upgrading older PC's where you don't want to buy new memory.

Shuttle AV18E, $56 shipped @ newegg.
Celeron 1.1A Retail, $52 shipped @ newegg.

Why do I think this was worthwhile to post?

-This combo should run fine with most non-1.26jiggawatt powersupplies
-You can use your existing PC133 or even PC100 ram
-The chip should be able to overclock to 1.46GHz out of the box (overclocker.com lists the average overclock at 1.527)
-Even when overclocked you can use PC100 because the VIA chipset can run memory at FSB-33MHz.
-The new "A" celeron's have 256k cache and are pretty decent cpu's for the buck

Not as high performance as a XP1600+ on the ECS board, but you don't have to buy DDR, powersupply, and heatsink.

Also, FSB selection is limited to 66,100,133 so if you chip doesn't make it your SOL, but it has adjustable Vcore to get them up there. Not bad for $108 shipped.

Now, everyone go buy two and run your favorite DC client on them!!!

Update :

1) motherboard is out of stock at newegg !?!?!?!?! I just checked !!?!?!?
2) Motherboard does not have integrated lan or video

AMD Athlon 1600+/266 FSB XP Processor CPU - $51.98 @ Newegg
ECS K7S5A SiS® 735 SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD - $53.99 @ Newegg

Would rather have 4 hr 2 min Wu's for the price of DDR, HS/F and a PS. ;)

A special notice on the 1600+ XPs from NewEgg. One of my TS members just got today a 1600+ and it appears the good stepping versions are gone. This one OCs but not like the ones we were getting. :( If you notice, they no longer list what the steppings are for these CPUs.

He's been able to get this locked 1600+ to run at 167 but no higher (still isn't bad) but the previous chips were going up to 175 with good cooling. ;)

ECS K7S5A SiS® 735 SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD - $53.99 @ Newegg

Too bad you didn't get in on the Refurb deal they had on these about 2 weeks ago - $35.00 each @ Newegg. - I ordered 6 of them. :D

BTW, the boards arrived this past Thursday - they must've shipped from the wrong pile though. :Q The refurbs were supposed be just the bare boards, but all of mine arrived just like the full retail versions with the box and all of the cables/manuals/CDs! :)

I agree that the Athlon XP + SIS735 provides the most bang for the buck (while still using SDR), but the celery is nice if you want something that can be cooled quietly, and will probably run off a cheapo 250 Watt psu.

I've had great luck with the $55 Biostar M7VKQ. It has integrated video and LAN, but only takes SDR. I've built 3 of them so far - we have some customers who need an ISA slot still.

Whoa... I shoulda been more specific :)

Ya, I know the ECS K7S5A / XP1600+ is an awesome deal, but I'm looking at a bunch of friend/family PC's (all potential nodes) which have a ton of PC100/PC133 ram and decent, pre-athlon powersupplies. The shuttle/celeron deal seems to be the cheapest way to go to end up with a decent upgrade. $108, re-install windows, and done!

For a new system, (or crack rack nodes) the K7S5A is a great combo with the XP 1600+, no doubt at all.
