You do know that Smart & Friendly is no longer in business - don't you?

I RMA's a 6x ide 1-couple of months before they went out of business and they screwed me. There is a company providing tech support for the S$F crap but it cost $30 and hour to listen to em.

seems like ubid.com does alot of business from them. i got a minolta color pageworks color laser printer and a S&F CD Speedwriter RW from ubid and it turned out they came from justdeals.com. all my stuff works fine.

i recall someone mentioning in the forum though regarding the less than adequate packaging material justdeals.com used when shipping. not sure if that was a one time deal or if that's their policy to save $$$ on packaging.

kind of reminds me when i ordered a philips external cdrw from ubid that was supposed to be "NEW" and when i opened up the package, their was the drive wrapped in that really hi quality bubble wrap.. taht was it. no peanut foam or anything to keep it from bouncing around in the box. and it stated on the box as "RENEWED". false advertising id say. but luckily the drive worked so i didnt bother complaining cuz at the time, i needed a drive since my old one was busted. some people are just dumb i guess.

Their products aren't crap, but you get basically no warranty either. I own a Smart adn Friendly 6x4x24 IDE burner and have had absolutely no problems with it.

I have heard VERY good things about Smart and Friendly CD-R drives, although this is the first time I hear that they're out of business. I personally would wait until Amazon has those Yamahas back in stock, but I don't think I'd hesitate ordering a S&F drive.

Just like Amit, I have had NO PROBLEM whatsoever with my 6x4x24 CD-burner. I had gotten one of these during the days of poor ol' Value America :p

There isn't anything wrong with S+F drives at all. I have a 4x SCSI (actually a Teac), and my friend has a 6x IDE. They both work great. Hey if the pprices are close to what you are paying used, and they are gaurenteed not to be DOA. What's the difference? Right???

Animosity on my part about S&F cause I wound up losing a drive due to bankruptcy, the drive worked great for about 4 months, then broke, they were gonna replace the drive, so they stalled me for a month or so till they oficially dissapeared.

I have a Plextor scsi now and there is no comparison, saw a HP ide burner in the paper today 8x something for 150+ at OD or OM.

BTW- If you have any problems with the S&F drive and need to get it repaired!![you will agree with me then}
