this is follow-up repost from THIS Anandtech thread by jedimasta, but with a MUCH better price, if it happens to apply in your area.

I was at Office Depot B&M store last night picking up one of those Linksys Network in a Box deals, and I saw that they had the MS Gamevoice for, i believe, $24.99!! At the end of the isle, they had it on display and the price was still listed as 50bux but in the isle at the usual display shelf, it was distictly listed as 25bux. The sticker had the list price correct, so it didn't seem a misprint. THAT's a great deal!

so if you've been wanting to try this thing out, grab it. However I have on and don't think much of it. For voice commands in gaming, it's too slow for switching weapons, if you can bind your keys properly, that's much faster. Perhaps it's good for Flight Sims where it's really difficult to remember all the bloody commands. Not a good buy for 50bux.

Anyway, for 25bux, it's prolly worth it (it has a good microphone headset by Plantronics) if you might use it. Good luck, hope this is a national price... Price matching possibilities, of course!

The one place I didn't go into, now I gotta go check. Damn, I feel ripped. I'm in the San Fernando Valley, I'll go by mine, check it out and report back. Thanks for the heads up Fraggle

Actually I think the price is $29.99. I have had my eye out for one of these for a while, but didn't want to put out $50.00 for it. Welll... If you want it cheaper PM with Staples.com which has it for the usual $49.99. Simply buy 3 (one for a friend, one to sell), use a coupon for $25 off $75 (there was a coupon for $20 off $50... you would have only had to buy 2 to get the same price as with this coupon). Of course you could just buy 1 or 2 and put enough stuff in your cart to add up to $75... it's up to you. ANYWAY... Since both Staples and OD have free shipping over $50, that is covered. Bottom line is you get the thing shipped for $21.xx. This may be more work that walking in and buying it, but may be worth it for some.

I went to 2 stores. The first said they never carried the product. The second, a considerably larger store had it for 49.99 on their shelves and the MS display. I had them do a price check to confirm it. Guess you got lucky fraggle. I guess I won't have to cancel my order after all.

hmm, v. sorry to hear that Jedi:(
hope i didn't waste to much o' your time:D but it looks like there are some OD stores other than the ones in Little Rock, AR that carry them right now at a discount. i got mine for around 40bux with that 20% off gaming @ Best Buy coupon (expired). i'm gonna look into returning it personally -- i have enough microphones and none of my q2 clanmates are really up for getting one (or DLing the software to that allows them to communicate w/the gamevoice). ah well. heh, email me jedi and maybe we can shoot around sometime, using our gamevoices:.)lol, how cool/dorky!

Sounds good fraggle, althoug I've been away from q2 longer than my estranged son (j/k, don't have any kids). I'm more of a counterstrike man myself, but if you get into that, give me an ICQ buzz and we'll work the total dork angle together. Makes for good team strategies though, specially when the dead guy tells the live guy where the enemies are ;)
