Hot Deal? RCA 700 watt DTS home theater at Sams online for $299

Pretty good deal, especially with the subwoofer. The speaker package is great and the receiver is full featured. It has 3 S-video inputs if I'm not mistaken.

Radio Shack has this for $399.

I've got the the lower-end 2250 350 watt version of this. It is great for my needs.

My only warning is that RCA/Philips is not the most reliable brand out there.

Yeah, my RCA 2250 receiver died after about one year. Be sure to use your Blue card (or a card that doubles the warranty). If you get a "good" one, this is a great deal. The sound on DVDs is awesome...as good as thousand dollar plus systems...

One more comment...the thing that made the RCA2250 very attractive to me is the S-video switching. It has 2 rear and one front S-video inputs and you can switch the inputs by selecting SAT, VCR, DVD, etc. You will find that you usually have to get into $500+ receivers to get this many S-video switches. I COULD NOT FIND, HOWEVER, if this 2500 model has the same feature. My guess is that it DOES since it looks to be a more powerful version of the 2250.

OT home theater question, If I plug my VCR, Direct TV, DVD, etc into the Svideo ins, will
it only come out of the Svideo outs? Or can I go in Svideo and out with just the yellow RCA plug
video out? My TV doesnt have Svideo in So I was just wondering.

Thanks

MOST video switchers (manual or electronic) INCLUDING THIS ONE do not do conversion to S-video or vice versa. Your RCA "ins" will only be displayed on the RCA "out", and your S-video "ins" will only pass through your S-video "out".

There is a standalone switcher (Sima SVS-4...$150) that does do this conversion like you want. If anyone finds a deal on this box, I want one as a backup. The DOWNSIDE to an A/V receiver that also switches your video is that IF the receiver kicks the bucket, you totally lose your video. Gotta climb behind the entertainment center and rewire everything or get a new receiver quick!
