HOT Deal on Bose 301

NutBucket

Lifer
Fry's (Ugh) has these speakers, which usually sell for $150 each for $80 each until Tuesday I believe. Damn, and I just bought 201s for $100 each in July! Get these while they're hot! (pun intended)

Nope, walk in only. If you're generous enough, I just might go try and get you a pair. LMK via e-mail so I get it faster.

Do you know if these are the Series III or Series IV? I know the Series III sell for $200 at the Bose factory store, but the Series IV ones are the newest ones and sound better.

I found out last week that one of the Electrical Engineers I work with is a former Bose employee. Before I could even begin to make fun of him, I was told that he has a genuine dislike of all things Bose, and the dislike is not immediately related to his departure.

I thought it was funny.

BTW, I don't think Bose makes the worst speakers in the world, they just shouldn't be charging what they do.

Is this sale regional? I just called the Fry's here in San Diego, CA and they quoted me a price of $148 and that was on sale. Let me know.. I really want to get these

There are MUCH better speakers to be had at this price. Bose has one of the highest profit margins of any speaker companies, to which any Bose R&D engineer will readily admit. Those of you actually considering these speakers may want to hear NHT SuperZero's for the price of about $170/pr

bose was revolutionary because they were the first to have their speakers w/such a small footprint w/decent sound.

now, they suck.

avoid bose and get some real speakers 🙂

"No highs, no lows, must be BOSE!!!"

Nothing more really needs to said....

But I will anyway. You all do know most of the drivers that bose uses are simple paper cones? You do know, that they really don't have any lows or highs? They have peaks at 120Hz and 6-8KHz to make the average listener think they are hearing "quality" sound. Take any reputable speaker company, a few have been mentioned, but the list is LONG, and pair their equally priced set of speakers in a controlled listening environment, and you will be amazed on how bad the bose sound. You just need to feed it a high quality source, oh say like the Top Gun DVD, or some nice organ music, or even some nice high pitched hand bell recordings, and you will easily hear the difference.

I had bought these 301s about ten years or more ago ,it sure is about time they have droped there prices on these speakers ,just think how long they have been around not that they are bad ,i still have mine but after all these years they are still a $150 apiece thats what i paid and still!!!!

So I went to Fry's - Is it $159 for a pair? That comes to about $80 each?

Any ideas how good these speakers will be as surround sound speakers?

I bought a pair of these speakers from Fry's (yesterday) for the purpose of using them as the rear speakers of a surround system. I noticed on the box that they came in that they were shipped directly from Bose (an address in MI, though) to Fry's. I suspect that Bose gave Fry's a good deal on these Series III speakers because they have been superceded by the Series IV.

Untill I win the big lotto, they will be fine for this purpose. Also, if I should happen to get a killer deal somewhere on better woofers and tweeters, I will do some experimenting.

Yup, $159 plus tax.

I will have them on a couple of little shelves as soon as I build them.

I don't know why everyone is ripping on Bose, I almost bought the 301's last year, they were my second choice. I think that they sound very good, especially for their size. Perfect for a dorm or some place without a lot of room.
