I have the 1000va model. Is the fan thermally controlled and only kicks on when required or is my fan dead? It hasn't spun up yet and I've had it running for over 2 weeks. Anyone know? It doesn't mention it in the manual.

My fan only kicks in when the power goes out or when I test it using the button on the front.

I posted earlier here that my unit didn't come with a cable or manual. I finally received both after a half dozen phone calls and a week and a half of waiting. I guess Computer Geeks offers discounted service along with their discounted prices.

I the fan only coming on under load makes sense. It probably generates alot of heat in the DC to AC conversion.

For equivalent deal, go to www.outpost.com and type "Cyberpower" into the search box.

You'll find the Cyberpower 720va UPS with serial cable and software that monitors battery condition, power freq and voltage, time remaining to shutdown (in event of power failure) etc. and it automatically closes your programs, etc. Includes modem surge protector, 3 UPS AC jacks and 3 surge protected AC jacks. $79.95 includes overnight delivery.

I've been using Cyberpower UPSes for over a year now, I have this same 720va on my new Duron system.

Cyberpower UPS's are not even in the same league as the Deltec's, APC's, and TrippLite's in regards to quality, features and software. I have had 50% of the Cyberpowers I've purchased die after 6 months to a year.

But, on a postitive note you won't find a company out there with better customer service in regards to RMA's. Cyberpower will preship you a new unit without a credit card number and you just send the old one back in the same box. They even include a UPS shipper label so it costs you nothing to send the UPS back.

What software and features could you possibly need on a UPS other than reporting abnormal power situation, closing open programs, and having a screen with voltage, frequency, temperature, and details of any programmed/scheduled shutdowns?
