My first Hot deal.

My bag was totally broken and I was in Eastern Mountain Sports looking for a new one. Anyway, the sales guy points out they have a lifetime warranty. Even better, he says, you can return it to their factory (i think they cover shipping) and they fix it and send it back!

I had to pick up a special packing bag from EMS and I'm sure other retailers have them.

Anyway, good deal for students with broken bags :)

I sent in a bag to Jansport for warranty work once. It was a nice $40 black bag with brown leather bottom. They sent me back a Pink Nylon bag and said they were out of stock of the other one. Luckily I got it exchanged for the same one at a local store after explaining what happened.

Same here... wife had one and after two years it ripped allong one of the seams. We paid shipping to them, they sent us a newer model. Had to get a different color though since the old color was discontinued. Was worth it though.

Smae here. I bought a new bag from LLBean in the mean time though and its quality is so much better. The new Jansport does look like a nice improvement over the old one though.

The zipper on my old Jansport was messed up so I sent it in to get fixed and they sent it back fixed with new strings on it. I remember when those strings were so cool.

Backpacks made by Eastpak offer a similar guarantee, and they'll even mail you a postage-paid bag in which to ship your defective gear. It's too bad that more companies don't offer this level of service...

This is somewhat off topic, but if you take a pair of pliars and pinch down on the side where the zipper comes out joined, it can correct the loosening that can occur. Give it a shot. :)

Really?! I always thought Jansport was pretty good quality. All through elementary and high school, all I ever used were Jansports cuz they took all the abuse I could dish out on them.

I think I've only had one or two "break" on me, that's when my books finally tore through the bottom leather piece. One or two out of 15 isn't bad, I've still got a bunch of them laying around, just no need for a backpack anymore.

I'm not too impressed with Jansport, although it probably is alright. My first backpack was one from Land's End (i think). That thing just never broke or looked a day old. I still have it and it; by far the best thing my parents bought me. However, I wanted a new backpack in high school so I bought a jansport. It broke in a year.

Doesn't everyone know that in every thread someone has to talk about how much the product sucks? that's the great thing about free speech, you get to listen to everyone tell you how much they hate everything you like :p

I can vouch for Eastpak's great guarantee. I had a backpack wit a broken zipper bought several years back, no receipt or anything, sent it back with a brief note telling them the zipper was broken, the back padding had slipped and if they could, could they replace the leather bottom too because it was kinda dingy from use. Sent it in their prepaid box, got it and everything I asked them to fix got fix. They even replaced the small compartment zipper that wasn't broken.

Can you give me the contact info you used to get that prepaid mailer/box? I went to their website about a yr ago and contacted them via email and never got a response nor any prepaid mailers from them. I've since sewn the bottom of my bag back up but i'm sure my handiwork willl fall apart soon.

yea, the lifetime warranty has come in handy. between my brothers and myself I think we've sent in maybe 5. But on the my latest problem I've found a way to get around the zipper problem for the past 10 yrs. The Jansports backpacks itself are great, the zippers always seem to have a problem though. :(

I had a jansport bag that was broken, one of the straps broke off. Very easy process.

LL Bean does that as well. LL Bean products (and that means EVERYTHING from LL Bean) carries a lifetime satisfaction guarantee. That is, if at any point you're not satisfied with your purchase, bring it back for a full refund, no receipt needed. I have friends that have taken products back to LL Bean that were like 5 years old and falling apart, and they got their refund, no questions asked.
