Hey everyone,

Buy.com now has this for $238.95:
Buy.com dvcII

With free shipping and the $30/$150, you're out the door at $208.95

The next best price is from Onvia ($242.24):

Onvia DVCII $242.24

Get it while the free shipping lasts!

Update:
Harmony Computers has it for $229 + shipping (7.99 for me), so there might be a price match angle to this... only $5.24 so far, but maybe it can be found for even less somewhere.

The deal now stands at ~$203.

I have been looking at this as well. Heard mixed thoughts about this device. Kinda wish it had firewire. But for 300 bucks and Hardware MPEG2 what can you expect.

Buy.com has had about the best price on this for a while now with the coupon deal .

If anyone has this now and is using it frequently can you post your experiences?

I've been using an AIW for awhile now... I recently saw some svcd compliant caps from the DVCII and it blows away anything I've been able to accomplish on the AIW (with a 900Mhz Athlon) - the AIW is a toy compared to this thing!

The only thing that scares me is that I've read a lot of posts about the DVCII and it seems to be similar to the Iomega Buz of yesteryear... _if_ it will work with your system, it ROCKS, but if it doesn't...

BTW, I just saw a new Firewire/DV --> MPEG/2 capture card (maybe at videoguys?), but it was like a grand or something...

Later!

Quick question...

Can this card be used to accelerate encoding of media already captured or does it have to be captured through the card in order to use the MPEG-2 encoding capabilities? Also, will it aid in MPEG-2 decoding for video playback?
