I doubted this thread, but I called myself and asked. So if you paid for a repair, call MS and you should get a refund.

So is this saying that a manufacturing change was made to 360's on 1/1/06, so the ones after that date will not be so succeptible to dying?

Bought my xbox on launch day and haven't had any problems yet. Hopefully I won't need this in the future.

Well that's pretty cool of MS.

I got mine on launch, zero problems at all.

Any details on this? As in how long it will last/cover?

Larger portion... Do you have a +/- percentage rate of the launch system that have died? Or are you just pulling that crap out of your butt?

What consoles come with a 1 year warranty?

My Gamecube came with a 1 year warranty, and when it developed a disk read error problem after about 1 year 8 months Nintendo just extended my warranty out another year and fixed it for free. Gamecube may not have been the best system, but that at least made me respect Nintendo a lot more.

On a side note, when my 360 broke, I was able to purchase a 2 year warranty and get it fixed through that; do you know if they're refund any of that?

Looks like it extends the warrenty for 1 year.

"extending the warrantee of all Xboxs manufactured before january 1st to a one year warrantee"

So Before the end of 2006 if you have a problem it will be covered.

this sucks... i just had to pay best buy 50 extra bucks for a warranty, cause there is only a 90 warranty period... now that they extended it by a year, i should have not payed it. lame...

Was your console made before 01/01/06? If not, then you probably made the right choice.

Thanks.

wonder if this is a PR move to combat the PS3? Eitherway, it's a good move. Would have liked to see it be longer.

Hmmmm, I'll check mine when I get home. It's only locked up once on me though, after leaving it on all night I got the red light of death.

Um not hard do some research man... hit up all the xbox sites or vid game sites and look at all the people having issues... this is not a rare problem man..

4 failed here (all early systems) just this week alone in our small xbox community..

All in all , it sounds like a good deal. And on top of adding the HD-DVD dealeo that we were all talking about yesterday. It does sound like Micro$oft has some PR people working overtime on how they can strategically release information , or updates like this to secure their foothold on the console market.
In all honesty , I never was interested in the Xbox. I've got 2 of the newer model PS-2's and a gamecube..and my PC..so I was never interested in getting one. Recently I had a 360 basically fall into my lap for free...well almost for free. I need the audio/video cable's and a controller..and I'm good to go. And the more I've looked at what the thing can do , it looks pretty dang cool. The connectivity of the thing is awesome , and it fits right into my entertainment center.

DEAD RISING!!! FTW!!!
