A visit to my local Costo revealed a fresh stack of Panasonic DVD-RV32K (black) players. Previously, Costo was selling the DVD-RV22 model.

The specifics:

- Plays DVDs
- Optical digital output
- Plays MP3 songs
- Plays WMA songs (the DVD-RV22 model didn't have this feature)
- Has a center channel "dialog enhancer" option for improved vocals during movies.

I've been using this same player for the past month and just picked another one up for my mother-in-law. It's got to be about the best player in this price league. Best Buy and Circuit City are still selling this player for $119.99 (before a $20 Mail-in rebate.)

Costco is selling the player for $99.99 (before a $20 mail-in rebate.) The rebate expires on 3/31/2003 - so you have plenty of time to buy one. Plus, the prices could always drop some more.

I bought this at amazon 2 weeks ago and when it came I realized it didn't have an coaxial digital output (it just has optical digital output). Peviously, my sony dvd player had it, but never played VCD, mp3, etc.

So i had to get a optical digital wire (toslink) quickly and everywhere i looked, the cost was in the teens.
i did find this store which sell it cheap svideo plus free shipping
toslink 2m (6feet) $8.50
toslink 1m (1foot) $7.50
toslink 3m (9feet) $9.50

i got it not to long after ordering, pretty good. it's hosatech brand:

update! i just checked, no more free shipping. but it might still be cheaper than other places.

Natively, no. However, there are usually "work-arounds" by saving the image to a VCD format. Also, the limitation of the player not playing SVCD formats might disappoint some. However, please keep in mind that this is an $80 DVD player. For me, the good far outweighs some of the limitations. Again, let me state some of the good points:

- Great center channel dialog (when using either the dialog enhancer or not)
- 4:3 zoom feature. Great for people who can't stand watching 16:9 format movies on their 4:3 aspect ratio TV.
- Slim design: fits almost anywhere
- MP3 playback & WMA 8 playback

Oh no, it doesn't play floppy disks and can't load Quake3 saved games!

Come on, people, stop complaining :) It's a good deal on a somewhat basic DVD player.
