I'm not super familiar with this case, but the reviews from Newegg look good, and Coolermaster makes great stuff.

$79.99 (discounted from $99.99) - 20% promo (CMCASE20) - $15.00 rebate = $48.99 shipped.

Been using this case for over a year. Great great case. Comes with side window with room for 2x 140mm fans. Tools free 3.5 HD and disc drive mounting. Even with the window, the noise is very low. Cable routing is excellent too. Highly recommended. It's a pretty good size case, heavy though.

I used this for a build for a cousin of mine. It's a damn good value at $49. It was very easy to build in.

$75 with tax and shipping. Sigh.

?? The Promo code is still up.

As for the case... very nice looking case. Shame it does not have USB 3.0 ports (the '2' version has them), but adding a Biostar 3.5" bracket handles that nicely.

I really wish that case manufacturers would get over their obsession with side windows and LEDs.

I dont' care much for such cases either. However, there are plenty of options for you if you don't like gaudy overdesigned cases. You can't possibly be demanding that EVERY case manufacturer stop making cases for people who like bright lights, windows, and overwrought cartoonish plastic parts :)

Of course not, but, IMO, a lot of these cases would look much better without the side windows and LEDs, and that option should be available without having to invest ~$30 in a new side panel and the time it takes to disable those obnoxious LEDs.

Some of these cases have switches to turn off lights.

EDIT: I believe this case has a switch to turn off lights.

That's my price with promo and without rebate. So subtract the $15 rebate from $75 and it's $60 total for me. Was going to grab it for my nephew but at checkout it was too much.

Correct. I only wish you had an option of fan ports on the clear side or not. I do not need the fans there and would rather have the additional quietness a more solid side would offer.

In all fairness the red LED's are not very bright at all. I have a CM full tower with them and the blue lights on my router outshine them by a huge margin.

Agree. These are very dim. Doesn't matter as I don't want them anyway and I turned mine off.

This is one of the best cases out there with a handle when you appreciate both its style and set of features. I will never go back to a handle-less case.

Other than me resting my feet on top of my Antec 900 case I have to agree the handle option looks really nice and tempting. My nephew would definitely love it :) I wish it was a tad lower in price for me :(

Build quality is about the same both units very sturdy, the Scout is a lot tighter to work in and doesn't have the forward thinking cable routing that 400R does.
Also the Scout will have some restrictions on video card length that 400R won't and the Scout has no USB 3.0 ports while 400R does.

The 400R is a joy to work in while the Scout can be tedious if 1st time or lacking much experience

On USB 3.0..you can buy a panel from Cooler Master (from the HAF series I think) that fits into the 5.25" bay. Only bad part is shipping cost.

I've had this case for 3 years. Its not a complete POS but its close. The On/Off switch broke a year ago. The rear card holders break just looking at them. The big fan died after 1 year. For 30 0r 40 bucks its ok. Anymore than that and its a waste.

Wow, I hate that you had a bad experience. But I have to disagree about it being a POS. The chassis itself is next to top notch, not flimsy, and has been machined well. The design and features are better than average. And the handle makes this far better than average if you are one who cherishes the ability to either carry the case around or simply get it out of its cubby-hole from the desk to make quick changes (hard drive replacement, video card upgrade, etc.)

They probably took shortcuts with some things. The LED On/Off has quit working for others as testified in many reviews (I took note of this before I bought it). Also, the expansion card bays use a mechanism that is not intuitive. I broke one of mine right at the start, then I took time to carefully examine how it was meant to be used, and now it is simple to me (and Cooler Master includes a spare clip, probably to replace the many broken ones that people inadvertently destroy due to this design).

You have definitely pointed out the two big weaknesses/flaws that other reviewers have reported. The fan going out was just bad luck, IMO, and that could happen with any case fan for a variety of reasons.

I just wouldn't want anybody to miss out on what this case has to offer based on the aforementioned grievances. It is still well worth the asking price ($65 shipped as of this posting), even without the promotion codes and rebate offers, and even with a flaky LED and known clip-issue.
