The midnight debut of the 80GB MGS4 bundle is a hot enough deal as it is but to get a $100 Wal Mart giftcard with purchase is super hot.

Deal is up through saturday but the only problem now is finding them in stock.

I know there was a thread for the 40GB deal but searched and didn't find one on the 80GB. Mod if there is one then delete this or merge. Thanks.

I'm going to check out the nearest Wal-Mart at lunch to see if they have any stock... then decide if I want to buy it or not.

No, it's $499, because it is an 80GB unit.

With the $100 gift card you can call it $399 if you like. ;)

Hello,

Is the gift card only available by store pick up? I'd check their website but it's offer for the 40gb, not the MGS4 bundle. I don't have a store nearby and Bestbuy would not price match. :(

Thanks.

The way I understand it is that it has not been confirmed to work online. Only in-store. When you buy in-store the cash register is prompting to gift the gift card during purchase just like on the 40GB deal.

I've heard reports that some people have bought online and then are sending emails to customer service inquiring about the gift card. But there is no confirmation that they will get one.

That's the whole difference? The hard drive? Isn't the price between a 40 and 80 gb drive, in reality, about 5-10 bucks? I really thought there was more to the difference than simply the drive. Isn't it more backward compatible or something?

I've called around and some wallmart says the GC will apply others will not.

The problem is, no walmart around here recieved more than 3 but BB and Meijer have them.

How do I get them to price match if the PS3 system listed in the ad with the GC is the 40gb version..

Think they will still do it? Should I tell them to call the Walmart?

Hm... how much would I be able to sell MGS4 for? I could use a Blu-ray player, and will only buy a PS3 with BC because there's still a slew of PS2 games I wouldn't mind playing. This seems like it would be a better deal than getting a used 60GB.

I could have swore I read somewhere that the 40 gig will be getting b/c in a future update, not sure how valid that is though.

Going from the 40gb to the 80gb gets you:

40 more GB
Metal Gear Solid 4
Dual Shock 3 controller (as opposed to a regular controller)
Backwards Compatibility with most of the PS2 library of games

The 40GB is still compatible with PS1 games, just not PS2.

If you really wanted to play PS2 games, you would have a PS2 already. They've been out for super ungodly long, and they're pretty cheap.

I had a PS2, but the backwards compatibility was still a factor in choosing which PS3 to pick. I'm a neat-freak, so I freed up some space on my entertainment center, and traded in the PS2 for a new PS3 game.

I'd like to get the 40gb one if the price is big enough. The PS3 has an user replaceable drive anyway. If the price is not any different then i might as well get the 80 gb one.

What is the price difference if anyone knows?

Yes you are right. The drive is easily upgradable to 320GB. And you can always plug in a cheap 4 port USB hub if you want the two additional USB ports.

The backward compatabilty is the main reason people buy 80's. However, the odds are pretty darn high right now that the 40 will get the same backward compatabilty as the 80 once they start selling PS2 games over the PSN. I know there are non-believers but I'd bet my bank that once PS2 games are available the 40 will have an updated firmware that allows BC.

No, I don't really want to play PS2 games, but I'd like to play some, and I'd like to be able to just borrow them from friends or buy them dirt cheap locally. I'd also rather not have yet another piece of electronic equipment in the rack when it's not necessary. Then there's the upscaling factor, especially since I'd be playing on a 65" screen.

40gb:

$400
can't play PS2 games
standard PS3 controller

80gb:

$500
Metal Gear Solid 4
can play most PS2 games
dual shock 3 controller

I really wanted one, and the money was burning a whole in my pocket so to take the decision away, I made a $600 extra car payment today.

I got one at Walmart today!:)
The 80GB also plays SACD disks. I don't think the 40GB does.
