AWESOME monitor here. I'm using one at home. It's from Sony's FLAT .24AG stripe pitch FD series tube from the G500. It's a true .24AG pitch measured diagonally (not just the horizontal measurement). Will do 1920x1440 at 75Hz thanks to a 297Mhz dotclock. Includes a 4 port powered USB hub in the base. 2 15pin VGA imputs. Intellegent asset control managability (turns itself on when you flip the lightswitch in the room... has sensor).

Compaq has awesome tech support policies with monitors too. Any problems and they ship you a new one, along with a shipping label for yours. Sony requires you ship yours back to them first on your dime.

It's basically a $1100 monitor. Only $599.95 plus 95 cents shipping. Apparently they have limited quantities.

Here's a review of it from PCWorld, surprisingly beating out many VERY nice monitors (ie. Viewsonic PF815, Sony CPD-G500, NEC FE1250, Mitsubishi Diamondpro 2040u), getting the best visual quality combo (text and graphics) of the whole list.

Apparently these are refurbs. Same warrantee policies apply though. They advance ship a replacement in case of any problems and pay for the shipping of your unit back to them, & have 24/7 tech support (1-800-OK-COMPAQ).

Q: how much does this thing weigh? I am in the market for a new monitor, but this is a little scary...

It weighs just a hair over 70lbs. 70.4lbs to be exact. Shipping weight is closer to 80lbs.

It's virtually flat according to Sony's tube specifications. However, you can put a ruler up to it. Straight as that. Straight as my 18" LCD.

yea, i was gonna say the same thing.

the picture in the XOOM page does quite look like the one on the Compaq page. It could just be me, and the angle they have the picture taken at.

if it is the .24 sony tube inside, then this is a nice deal

A curiousity.
Compaq lists this as having a 3 year warranty.
Xoom lists a 1 year.

Damn, that price is too good.
I think I'm going to have to get one.

Compaq is a leader in computer equipment and with its One-Year manufacturer?s warranty why settle for anything less?

Hrm.....1 year warranty...that sounds awfully like a refurbished monitor. Maybe it's a typo....but 1 year is usually the same warranty manufacturers give to refurbished monitors.

This MUST be a refurb ... although I can't see that anywhere on the page. Still, the discrepancy in the warranty is reason enough to be cautious.

Edit: Sure enough ...

[EDIT]

Sorry folks, apparently, our admins no longer allow picts to be linked directly. I put a quick page up so you can see the picts though. There are 3 of them, 1 front view, 2 top views. They're kind of big though (about 100k each), so it may take a few seconds to load.

A refurbished at this price isn't a hot deal anymore, but it does have a better warranty than the usual 90-day ones that most refurb monitors come with, so it might be worth it if you're in the market.

I have the Sony F400 and that sucker is as flat as can be and oh my god, the picture quality at .22mm dot pitch ... but it's only a 19". :(

doh, it's a refurb, they try to hide it and make it hard to find on the page. :(
